Debug%

I've been testing around in Debug Mode and have even been thinking about making splits for this. Is it possible to make this an actual category? Thank you!

Can you clarify the category exactly? Getting into Debug isn't restrictive, so no concerns there. But that could mean any range of things when you're talking about doing a run with the Debug in play.

Well, when you enter the first area in Debug mode, you have everything unlocked (including Dances), so I thought of just playing the game by using what you have. The dance that I used as soon as Shantae leaves her home was the Water Town dance. It seemed like it could be a category but I just wanted to be sure it could work. I figured that it would be easy to play the game with noclip so I decided against using that function and instead used Harpy form. I'm still currently making this work (the first labyrinth is arguably the easiest one since it just requires you to fly up at a certain point and fight the boss, but some others require keys so I'm currently routing those) and I'm also making splits for it as well. Once It's all finish, would it be alright if I were to record the speedrun and have you look at it?

Yeah, that's fine. I feel that before we add any category for it, it needs some definition. Debug% is open to interpretation so it's a bit cloudy without some sort of definition, but I see what you're aiming for here. We're discussing it on the side in the WayForward Discord as a community as well to determine how we want to approach this request.

I just finished routing, recording, and rendering the speedrun video involving Debug%. Please excuse my gameplay as I'm not very good at this game.

Any details yet regarding Debug%?

Heya, Bub. Just letting you know that we've not necessarily forgotten about this. With me being the only active mod of this game for now and my very busy life, it gets put on the back burner. I am waiting for WinnerBit to take a look at your Video and provide feedback. The main thing is that we believe it needs a specific name/rule set before we determine how best to make a category of it. Outside of that, it's good stuff! A lot like Pirate Mode of SatPC or Hero Mode in HGH.

Question, when you set up the stuff from the menu, do you also stack your inventory full of items out of the get-go?

Hey, thanks for letting me know. I can't wait for WinnerBit to observe the category and I'm glad you like the idea! Now, for the name/rule set, I probably can't help too much on that as I'm busy with getting work done in time for the Holidays, but could possibly help out a little. Also, yes all of the items are stacked which would more than likely help out coming up with a better route.

Hey-o! I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner on this. College, holidays, and sickness all just kinda sucked away most of my free time for a while.

First off, nice work with the routing. Just watching it makes me eager to give it a whirl and figure out more uses for the items and animal attacks we now have access to! Honestly, Debug% strikes me as very amusing. While the game is smart enough to lock you out of certain areas before some tasks are completed, there are still many ways to save time over Any%, as well as some graphical glitches and alternate routes that make it a unique, interesting, and enjoyable run. In fact, it could be considered more beginner-friendly as well, and a good way for new runners to familiarize themselves with how the game works, plus it removes the time pressure of the mid-game Zombie Caravan night cycle.

My vote is for Debug% to be made an official category, and simply apply certain rules to it to make sure people know what to do from the get-go. I'm going to make the assumption that all of the items accessed via Debug mode are fair game. Here's my idea for a category definition:

-Beat the game in Debug Mode. (Debug Mode can be accessed by entering the following combination on the title screen using Left and Right (L/R) on the d-pad: L2-R8-L6-R2-L7-R6-L8.) -Time starts upon selecting "I0" and ends on the final note of the jingle upon fleeing the volcano. Runner must begin a run by selecting "I0" in the debug menu, and exiting back into the debug menu during the run is not permitted.

Hopefully this sounds good to everyone else. I'd love to see others give this run a shot!

P.S. I love the style points at 19:57 and 28:58. Definitely doing that if/when I do my own runs, haha.

Thanks for the discourse regarding. I have now added Debug% with the specific rule set as described by WinnerBit to the Leaderboard. Happy running!

Now: Zackajin (me) does a speedrun in this category after a long time without speedruns of this game.
