[EMU] Times (Serious Discussion #2)

if i'm not mistaken linkus' most recent run was submitted and ran through disc, dunno about sarcrai

Linkus always ran on USB loader for glitched. I remember him even telling me something along the lines of "I only use USB on glitched because its almost impossible to get WR without it" (because Veman used USB).

This was already discussed, and was ended with a fair compromise. It should be left up to the runner if they want their time removed or not. Getting rid of all the times by force would be unfair to the people that have submitted their times in the past, back when it was still fair. So my vote is to leave it as is.

I know you have just as much say as anyone else, Boohead. I have to disagree with your statement that we had a fair compromise. The "compromise" was done inside the Skype group which had many on the side of what happened and many that did not want USB times to be left were excluded from the Skype discussion. When I wanted to show that there were more people that were not in favor of keeping times on the boards I was shamed for adding people to the discussion. I personally believe that this thread is the only real discussion we have had about what to do with the already submitted USB times.

Any of that being said, past discussions or non-discussions are irrelevant. This is about here and now and getting things done :D

Regardless of whether you agree with me or not, I still stand by my choice. I am against removing any times without the consent of the runner. It would be unfair to them regardless of what they used. It should be their choice and their choice alone. You should never force someone to do anything if the person does not want to.

Might as well just not play glitched anymore then if you want WR :p

glitched is a bad category anyway

My opinion is that you should remove the times of people that currently run the game but for people that run on USB/Emu but haven't run the game close to a year should stay. If there time is removed then it is removing a piece of history that wont' ever be there ever again. other way is people with really good PB's that run on USB/Emu should have them removed

Someone should directly contact all remaining runners who still have USB times on the board. After we get their votes on it, we make a decision from there. We can give them like 2 weeks to respond, and those who don't respond will be counted towards getting ride of their times. (If they don't care enough to respond in two weeks, then it's safe to assume that they don't care if their times are removed.)

Me personally, I'm on board with whatever helps get new runners to this game, and simplifying the leader boards.

I don't think we should only take them down if the runner gives consent, it wouldn't be fair for those who did take down their times already. We can't just let some people keep their times and remove others, it wouldn't be fair. If by the end of the week the community does decide to take them down, then just notify them that there was a rule change. Most of the people who had emu times have been very understanding, so if the remaining people, whoever they may be, are not understanding, well it's what the community decides. My point is, it should be all or nothing, not just some times are left up because they're old runs. That wouldn't be fair to everyone else who are abiding by the rules.

I barely have the time to run this game these days, but keeping times from a banned version is silly. Like some people said, it would just confuse newcomers when they look through the leader-board. I personally believe removing the USB loader times is the best route.

Chaoslink, you're clearly not thinking from an objective standpoint. No disrespect, but what you're saying is biased and represents a narrowminded opinion. "glitched is a bad category anyway" this upsets me. You're not taking this seriously. You're not trying to be fair to everyone. And excuse me for targeting you with this comment, it's not personal. It's just a good example of what's wrong with how people view problems like this. Just because the category isn't popular, or you personally don't like it, does NOT in any way mean that the rules are fine being unfair. That sentiment is ridiculous and leads to the problems that we're trying to fix.

The issue with that speedrunner is that most of those games still allow those side columns to be run, as to where ours is banned.

If you want to run the game on an USB loader or emulator, go ahead, no one is stopping you from doing so. Your time is just not allowed on these leader-boards if said run was submitted. Play the game your way, just have fun.

p.s. This post isn't directed to anybody in particular, just putting it out there.

Ok so.

The majority of people do believe that removing the [emu] times is fair and proper, and two people who had times up there actually already removed their own times after this discussion. That being said, some people brought up that we should make sure that these people are contacted about it. I'm going to personally contact everyone through Twitch PM that has an [emu] time up on the leaderboard about the removal of their times. I'll give them a week to respond, but I think waiting beyond that is pointless as some of the people are inactive.

I'll make sure to edit this post with the names and statuses of people who have contacted me back. Next week on Friday by midnight (as per usual) the times will be removed, and I think that's a fair amount of time. Thanks for participating everyone <3

People Contacted: FoopJohnson - No response Seathorne - Responded and manually removed [EMU] times from leaderboard Johanian - Responded and manually removed [EMU] times from leaderboard Linkus7 - Responded, will remove times after Sunday MrAfroman20 - Responded

Note: Sarcrai and Javi already removed their own times personally during the time of this discussion, so clearly there's no need to contact them!

Since I was asked:

Is there enough consensus to add a couple super mods? (and are any of the regular mods inactive/uninvolved enough to suggest removal?)

I personally do think adding a few super mods is the way to go. As decisions on topics have kind of been split we need a couple super mods to make the final decision. As for the inactive mods, Veman retired and we haven't really heard anything from Linkus, but we can leave that to the rest of the Community if they want to be removed.

Tozino has verified like, my last 3 or 4 pbs so I think he's good as a mod right now. Veman is not around any more as far as I know and linkus has been inactive for a long time. Other than that I'm fine with the standing of the mod list right now (and I don't think we should add super mods)
