Any% = Beat the game, no restrictions 79 Shines = Beat the game, while obtaining every shine from each stage, except Delfino. 96 Shines = Beat the game, while obtaining every shine from each stage, including Delfino. 120 Shines = Beat the game, while obtaining all shines. 50 Shines = Beat the game, without Gelato Beach skip. 58 Shines = Beat the game, while obtaining the 8 main episode shines from each stage.

Everything here is fine and dandy until you realize that there is an issue with 50 Shines. I get it, I get it, when Gelato Beach skip was found, people wanted to keep this as a category, either for the memories, or to look back on to see how much the game has grown. But it is irrelevant now because of Early Yoshi-Go-Round (Pinna Park 5 skip). Why put all these restrictions on this category? Perhaps this category should be changed to include every shine 1-7 in the stages. Yes, this includes Bianco Hills 1. 51 Shines would make much more sense, and it's much easier to define. It would be your "Any% No Major Skips" category or "Any% No Shine Skips" if you need "major skip" defined. I would never run 50 Shines, but I certainly will do this. I wouldn't be surprised if other saw this as a less arbitrary category, as we will NEVER have to change the rules if new skips are found. Episodes 1-7 GG done. No "no gelato beach skip" and then "oh wait you can't skip this too lol" when other things are found. What are your opinions on this? I'm fairly certain I've expressed this to Milk in some fashion before, but this post 1. makes it public and 2. elaborates on why it makes more sense (to me personally, at least). Thenkz 4 reeding nd gud luk wit duh RUNZ n mario goin fast n stuf ~~~ OpieOP ~~~

Hey, pal, the reason this is on the leaderboards is mostly for the Japanese community, as they still run it. Essentially it's any% no unintended shine skips (as bianco 1 is part of the game, not a glitch(though, I guess if you have the JP version you can skip shine 6 in gelato for shine 8)). It will likely not be removed or changed any time soon. I understand your point, but it hurts no one by being there and some people still use it, so I see no reason for it to be different.

Thanks for the info! At least you didn't shut it down immediately and say "no fuck off idiot". You explained why and kept the door open for ideas in the future. i take back what i said a couple weeks ago about demodding you for claiming a 21:57 in Any%.

The rules for any% currently state you need to defeat shadow mario in each level. I think this information is redundant. The real goal is to beat the game asap from file select, period.

I'm not sure who made the rules when we changed to speedrun.com initially, maybe Nkiller. You're right, though, I'll fix that~

Better, mugg?

so if we don't beat the game as fast as possible, we can't submit our time? :(

"Beat the game, no restrictions." is the baseline ruleset for Any% in speedgames.
