If you saw my glitch compilation, I discovered a few softlocks. I define a softlock as a point where you are forced to reset and have no control over mario. There could be sub-categories for different versions. I think someone mentioned this before, but didn't quite explain it. But I havery proven it is possible to do this. If you see this, please make this into a category. Thanks in advance.

I apologize, but Softlock% will not be a category. No leaderboard has a Softlock% category, and similar categories like Blindfolded% and Onehanded% are not accepted either. These are what we call challenge categories, which runners would run on their own to challenge their skill. This is usually because of the small number of runners, usually only one for even very popular games, interested in the challenges, or, in this case, does not represent what the game is built for. Yes, I'm aware of that glitches, unintended errors in the game, exist, and they do in any video game; however, runs aimed to trigger glitches are not "completing an intended goal of the game" or "completing the game," which means they do not represent the what the game was built for. Categories and runs need to be presentable, and they need to accomplish a task the game is intended for. A Softblock% run does not.

You can certainly still do runs; nobody is going to stop you from doing so. There are many other categories that are available to you. Why not run a full game category? There's 5 Star, 7 Star, and the new 13 Star. I think that's more of a challenge for your skill than softlocking the game, and there's much more content and weight in it.

If you're having trouble with recording, I recommend trying OBS studio.

I understand that you're trying to bring more variety to the game, but I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Yeah, category extensions are pretty crazy, and because they're crazy, their categories do not appear on the main leaderboard. You can apply for a category extension of this game if you want to.

I'm not applying this for a CE. Only mods can do that and even then this game isn't popular enough.

It's not just CE that have this category, There's Gateways,Toad's Christmas Adventure and Normal Super Mario Bros as well.

I think the only glitch that saves time right now is  King Bob-omb skip and being able to climb the wall of the mountain. Although I saw that if you fall into the void at certain places in WF, then you get sent to the top of the stage. This could probably save a bit of time.

Sure it will. Seems like we already have some strats for 13 Star Any%.

There's a glitch where, its precise, but if you manage to jump right next to the star, you'll gain a star but won't technically collect it. I did it in my 13 star run that I just submitted.

^^This is probably the result of the star being in a different location than where the hitbox is. I've had similar problems with stars before. I'll take care of this one.
And, please read the rules of the category before you do a run. The rules clearly state "complete all missions in the game," NOT "obtain 13 stars."

It seems to me that you're a fan of glitching the game and short categories. In that case, you can try 5 Star Any% (probably the shortest and most broken full game category) or run some levels that are comparatively broken (any level in BBB involving the wall climb, any level in WF involving teleporting, etc).

I really appreciate your effort in finding glitches that I would have never found on my own, so I thank you as a developer; however, keep in mind that on a leaderboard, our goal is to complete the game quickly and present it well through runs in order to grow the community. Rules are created so that runs would achieve this goal; they're not designed to screw anyone.

(I think you might know this already) But in bob omb battlefield, (this might be 1.3 exclusive, idk. it happened to me in that version) I got 100 coins, then after getting 100, when i hit ? blocks, every ? block hit spawned a new star. there were a bunch of stars in one spot. some were also facing different directions.

Interesting. Might be caused by an oversight in the new 100 star system (spawns the star above Mario instead of a fixed location). I'll look into that. Thanks for letting me know.
