I've only used the 5 main characters, but then there's these new character introduced in v2.0 and since they have some really convenient abilities, I could maybe save 2 minutes and maybe more. So what do you people think, should all characters be allowed or should only the main ones be allowed? Also, the rules says beat Invasion 2 with every character you want so...

I say no only because they are getting a re-write by beta-4. The bug with switching playables on the world map is only in SMBX 2 Beta 3 as well. I think the only way to allow it is to have a version number on the leader board and I have not found out how to do that.

2.0 is still in beta so i say it should be held off

I don't have problems with it being held off, but I think you should be allowed to take advantage of it. Beta 3 might not be complete, but The Invasion 2 is. It's not the same thing as cheat codes and you're already using some of the power-up state bugs in runs. I really think that it shouldn't be banned only because it's a beta, I mean, it's only the engine that is broken.
Also, it's a bug and bugs are often used in many speedruns, unless it's a glitchless category. I would like to hear what ToRRent think as well.

My reason behind holding off is that when the version of the engine is public that has the bug fixxed, then how will you handle it? My idea is to have the version of SMBX used on the leaderboard as a column, but I have no idea how to do that.

Do you mean a subcategory? That's not hard to fix, I know how to do it...
...but I don't think it's good to have that many categories, maybe we should allow only Mario, Luigi, Toad, Peach and Link after all. That way we shouldn't have any issues to discuss. But on the other side, we don't need to defer to other versions and therefore using special characters would not be cheating.
So, witch version should one use? Well, the answer of the question is simple. All of them.

I also agree that all versions should be allowed. Just we need to be able distinguish between them. not by subcategories either.
