Any ideas on capture cards for the Wii?

I want to branch out my speedrunning in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and I need a capture card for my ambitions. Does anyone have ideas for which capture card to buy, the price of it, and any additional equipment needed for that capture card.

This covers it all assuming you’re capturing composite https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Op8aK2RecKhjRJB7juOvwUjkXwBbL1eipxUpixBS2c4/mobilebasic

Spoiler alert, it says to use the gv-usb2 like mentioned above

That is interesting. Thanks for your time.

Wait, what is the difference between composite and s-video? And what is necessary for the Wii or will both work or something like that?

s-video is just a better quality image over composite, that’s all. I don’t think I’ve ever looked for s-video cables for the Wii, but you’d usually want first party ones if you’re going to capture s-video (third party cables can often provide awful quality). By default the Wii comes with cables that use composite video (composite video = the yellow part of the yellow, red and white cables).

I personally use and love the Elgato HD cc but that one is pretty expensive to start with.

Like @Komrade mentioned, the gv-usb2 is a good and not expensive capture card. I think this is the best cc to start out with.

This week I got my hands on an EasyCap, it's really budget (4 dollars, shipping included) and it....works..decent enough. So if you want the cheapest option for a cc and do not care about the quality.. I would go for EasyCap.

Just a word on S-Video. It's great vdieo quality (nearly indistinguishable to Component and RGB) and the cables for Wii are cheap and can be used on Wii U too, as a bonus. I used exclusively S-Video in my setup.

While I'd recommend 1st party cables too, Monoprice makes very decent ones for cheap if you're budget conscious: https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Composite-Yellow-S-Video-Stereo/dp/B003L16ZBI/
