speedrunning a game nobody's run before

I've been thinking about speedrunning games that nobody has run before, and am wondering how I'd go about it. There's something about game requests?? It's a bit confusing. Some clarity would help!

edited to add - one thing I'd like to do, if allowed, is to complete the run before submitting. I've checked around a bit and another user posted in another thread that "if the game is rejected for some reason, nothing prevents you from speedrunning it anyway."

what reasons would a game be accepted/rejected for?

double edited to add - these would all be NES/SNES/PS games, and all official (not fan-made), and maybe the occasional PC game

triple edit - ah, I found this: https://www.speedrun.com/gamerequestrules - right now when I view the request page it only tells me my account must be 7 days or older. Suggest to add the above link to that as well?

I will preface this by saying I am not responsible for game requests so this is just my knowledge and experience. Beyond what you edited in, what do you want clarified? First edit: From the request game page "For your request, we require a video of a full-game run played by you. " So yes, you should do a run before submitting. Accept/Reject reasons vary and are very hard to state explicitly. The do not accept list on the request page is the bare baseline. I will not specify more than that to avoid misleading you. Second Edit: Generally speaking, games will not be straight accepted or rejected because of platform (with the new exception of flash games). Third edit: I'm not sure what point you're making with the third edit. That link is on the request game page.

Basically, I want to speed run games that "people don't speed run". Things like strategy games. My #1 go-to idea, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 3, apparently, has already been run! I think I could beat that, though, but it wouldn't be easy. Another game on my mind, Liberty or Death, has been run, but, only for a single battle. I'd want to request a new 'entire game' category be added. Nobunaga's Ambition is something I'm also considering.

I'd also want to run PTO, a game made by the same guys who made the other three games - same console and era too.

This all brings up a few issues.

What if I run Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2, or 4. Both are also for the SNES, but suddenly, I'm turning a "single game" into a "series". What if the current moderator for Liberty or Death for whatever reason does not agree with adding an any% category. What if I then want to run a more modern game, say, Europa Universalis 2. Both 3 and 4 are on the site, how would I thus go about requesting 2 be added?

And lastly, what even counts as a "speedrun" for a game with no other entries, what if you lazily take your time?

Running games people haven't run before is good! Plus speedrunning is still gaining popularity, one-player games can gain traction later on, you never know.

Best you can do about Liberty or Death is contact the game mod. If the mod is inactive you can request mod for yourself, though you're probably too new for that yet.

It doesn't matter if Europa Universalis 3 and 4 are already on the site, game requests are treated individually. You can request 2 to be added in the Europa Universalis series.

All the games you are mentioning are big enough to have their own wikipedia entries so you probably have a strong case for them, the main problem right now is that your account is a couple hours old.

I don't think the mods are too regarding about the speedrun you are linking to your request. Just do your best, don't do silly things like go afk for no reason, etc.

As a fan of RTS speedruns already I am happy to see the sister genre of grand strategy get represented.

My experience with runs no one has done before has been getting accepted fairly easily (even with pretty poor video quality tbh)

I think the only thing that'll really red flag it is if non-speedrun content is in the video, or if you go out of your way with bad cropping (default youtube studio / OBS / twitch UI fullscreen will prevent this)

I have runs that have commentary/splits and other ones that are In-game sound fullscreen only.

There are still plenty of bandicam speedruns on the site even. I don't see a video quality rejection unless you accidentally crop the screen to 1/4 blackscreen or something

For adding games in a series that is partially represented -

I've done this with Star Control - Originally only SC 2 was on the site (due to being cult classic) but I added SC1 and SC3 myself - I first added them as individual games, and I only later applied to add them as a series after coming to an understanding with the SC2 page mods (namely that SC2 vids would be higher video quality than what I passed in the other games lol)

They require a fullgame run to submit a game Lieutenant_Boo? Welp, guess i can't submit pixel quest anytime soon, the website that i use for recording runs now says that our recordings must be kept at a length of less than 15 mins bcus corona virus ;-;

Canada

Consider using something that doesn't have really low arbitrary length maximums.

United States

@FalcoDash107 Consider using OBS, which is completely free without limitations.

...why would recording time even be limited because of COVID-19???

They might also be talking about the site they upload to has restrictions, in which case, just use YouTube which is the de facto standard for video uploading anyway.
