Found a WR that is actually just a playthrough with cheat codes and run splicing

I was excited to play through this FF7 so I was researching the only run on the site. Unfortunately it's not really a run.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5103&v=4Q8Qs9oWpIo

I haven't gone through the whole thing, but the most obvious clear splice I can point out right now is at 1:24:35; music cuts, they reappear 2-3 tiles away from where they were and they are MANY levels higher and have a LOT more items than they had a few seconds prior. If you look at the youtube comments someone asked the player directly about said splice and they admit they are using cheats/hacks. (They also encourage the use in Spanish in another comment).

I don't mind if people want to run games this way, but this is not a valid speedrun that should be on here LET ALONE listed as a world record.

This is listed as an Any% run described as glitched. It's not a glitched run though - it's a playthrough that uses a hacked version of the game (and almost certainly uses either save states or straight-up spliced video). I believe that's clear if you look at the video and the player's comments.

Sorry to be so intense, but this really irked me. And if I'm proven wrong I'll certainly accept it.

Thanks for your time! I'll be interested to see the ruling!

PS: Just to clarify, I've played through the version mentioned in the rules up to the point of the splice as well and I tried everything like the player does in the scene right before the 'glitch' and can't reproduce it.

There's nothing in it. Is that the procedure? Seems a lot less likely to be seen that way

There is a category "Glitchless". The runner may have thought that everything is permissible for the "Any%", as long as it's fast. And that the "Glitchless" is for a more stable run.

That's what I think.

@lolman-0027 No game should EVER have to specify in the rules that you can't use cheats or splices, because that's just implicit to anyone with two brain cells to rub together.

The point of a leaderboard is to compare runs of the same game. If people are modifying the game, they're no longer playing the same game, are they?

Sounds like every other interaction I've ever had with you.

Based on the video and the youtube discussion I rejected the run and removed the user as a mod for that game. I think the user just lacks an understanding of site norms. Most of his times are not competitive and he's not exactly shy about the details. If this continues to be a problem I'll make further changes.

Thank you! I would agree with all that.
