Supporting Games in a Speedrun

Hi, I'm kinda new to the website, but I've been an active fan of speedrunning for a while now. I probably won't ever start speedrunning but I had a few ideas for some new gamemodes in some of my favorite games. These ideas, however, require a bit of community knowledge of which I have none. My question is, would a speedrun of a game or set of games where there is a goal that requires multiple copies of the game or similar games to be played be possible and allowed? To give an example, say the goal of a game required something that was not in one version, but was in a sister game, sort of like the Pokemon series, and both games could interact to complete the goal and the goal only had to be completed in one of the two games. In this, one of the games would be a "supporting" game for the one that would actually complete the goal. I'm sorry if this was a bit wordy or if this is in the wrong thread, as I said I am new here, but I would appreciate some knowledge on whether or not this would be possible. Thanks in advance!

there are some runs like that, i.e the multiple mario game categories and some people run complete pokedexes in red and blue, so yes it could happen, but would mostly likely be extension categories
