Emulator Rules?

For the sake of anybody in future who also has this question, what are the rules on emu? I see that there are emu runs scattered about but there aren't any rules on the matter. I'm a potential runner since this game is amazing but I don't have the console.

The rules aren't currently set in stone really. The community as a whole just cares that you try to run an accurate emulator and that you don't tamper with loads or other behaviors. Also generally, we also don't want the emulation to be faster or even on par with the console speed since it disincentives running on official hardware. You should be fine running the game with PJ64 or any other pretty accurate emulator. It'll be obvious to you and to us if your emulation is inaccurate or faster so just try to avoid going down that road.

I got PJ64 1.7 which is considered the most accurate in most speed running communities. And don't worry, i'm not planning to push this game insanely far. When I do plan on pushing this game insanely far, I will do so on official hardware. I just want to get my foot in the door in terms of experience. Thank you so much for the reply. I'll get cracking right away :)

Nice to see a Forum Post about Emulator use! I would also try/learn speedruning this game, got the original Console (N64) and the game, but have no capture Card and I will not buy it for a game which i maybe only run in intermediate pace. If Speedruning this game will catch me i'm going to buy it anyway (Capture Device) but for some tries i would prefer the emulator way.

So here my Question: Am I allowed to play/run it with the latest PJ64 emulator (2.3.0.210) or is there a Emulator List where I can see which Emulator am I allowed to run and which setup i have to use. Is there a written Rule that only PJ64 1.7 is allowed due to some emulating stuff ? It would be nice if there is a Post where I can see which Plugins and Release is used to speedruning this game.

PJ64 2 is banned for almost all speedruns since it is faster than normal. For Banjo, even Emulators are still not the best way to run the game, since they are not 100% accurate. If you want to run on emulator to start with that is fine, however i would recommend once if you get serious to make the switch as emulator is slower in terms of loading zones so you would lose around 1 minute, however the game has less lag making some movement sections faster.

The best emulators to run the game are PJ64 1.6 , PJ64 1.7 and Bishawk

Leaderboard Changes

The leaderboard changes have been officially completed! Thanks to Wedarobi, with the power of his scripting, we now have categories sorted by Console first (Nintendo 64, Xbox, Nintendo Switch) rather than category (100%, Any%, Any% Restricted, etc).

Here's a breakdown of everything else changed:
