I wanted to get into IRL cookie baking and had a few questions:

  • Only whisks, spoons, forks and scoops can be used, does measuring cup fall under scoop and do mixing spoons and measuring spoons fall under spoons?
  • Are knives allowed? I often use a knife to level off the flour and to cut up the butter to melt faster.
  • Are chocolate chips required? (Maybe a chocolate chip and non chocolate chip category could be created).
  • How soon after baking must the cookies be tested for doneness and size (Cookies will continue to bake while the tray is hot making it a potential gray area)
  • Do eggs need to remain in the carton or can they be laid on the counter? (I know ingredients can be out and open but I wasn't sure if the shell or the carton counts as the container)

Measuring cups and knives are fine. We're basically trying to prevent any electric appliances. substitutes are allowed but some sort of filler must be used, like raisins or white chips. Eggs can be out. Not everyone has a carton for eggs.

Seems legit. Maybe some of the rules could be reworded but it's still a new category. Doneness of cookies seems quite subjective, is there a way to make it less so? Maybe a chart with temp vs time to ensure a base level or something?

here's a quick spreadsheet to better explain my idea: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O6_EA55JVGm83G9Ctc5w0vBZvNPWYOsea0-g-PZ-cTU/edit?usp=sharing
