Fire Seed Skip - Consistent rapid jumps (Video + image)

I've found that this method works everytime if done exactly the same way. At least I'm 90% sure I'd say. Still haven't figured out how to get the last jump to grab the trees consistently. NOTE: This is basically Deryls strat, I'm just aiming to make his strat 100% consistent or close.

First off a video and then a breakdown:

Step 1: Walk directly into the corner. Step 2: Press triangle and aim directly at this place (can be tricky before you get a hang): http://i.imgur.com/Es7CMdT.png Step 3: Press triangle again and quickly start moving into the acute angle. Step 4: Right before Harry jumps, press pause and keep pause/unpausing with X and START right after each other, until you see Harry bowing down slightly. Step 5: Hold down+right with either dpad or analog (I use analog) and press unpause and quickly pause very shortly after. Step 6: Hold right, make sure "continue" is selected and press X and START with one frame in between (almost at the same time, but X first.) Step 7: This is tricky with your fingers: Hold right again AND R2 on the same time and then do the one frame unpause with X and START as in the previous step. (You're basically inputting precise inputs on two frames) Step 8: If you now just hold right again and unpause, you should get rapid jumps, and this is how far I've come so far.

I do sometimes get more rapid jumps than in the video, but I think that has to do with either me aiming SLIGHTLY different, or the amount of down+right (step 5) frames are two many/few. Anyway, just wanted to share what I've found so we can all help to find that beloved consistent fire seed skip that we're aaallll dreamin' 'bout every night!

Be sure to check out the newest update. I changed step 7 to be more consistent. :)

Trying to find a better strat for Step8, and this is where I am :

  • Hold R2 to lock Camera.

  • Pause-Buffer on 2 frames, holding Left.

  • Then, keep Up-Left while pausing, and unpause. --> Here, Harry jumps and do a double jump after (seems to look like what you have on "Over the Trees"

  • If you hold Down-Left just after the first jump against the tree, it seems that you jump higher.

Hope that will be helpful, I continue to try things tomorrow !

Thanks for the feedback, I will look into your findings. Now that step 7 is very consistent, the place you stand in step 8 should be pretty consistent too, so there's hope for a pause-buffer method. When we find that, fire seed skip will be 110% consistent!

Tried a couple of times the full setup, and can't deal with Step 8 (Steps 6 & 7 are 99% consistant, step 4 is a bit more hard but still okay). I could grave to "over the trees" geometry many times, but with total luck I think. I still work on finding a strat to grab it more consistantly.

I found multiple pause-buffer strats, but it's all different everytime. The grab after step 7 is not consistent, so finding a pause-buffer/consistent strat in step 8 is pretty tough. I hope we'll get it. Otherwise, step 8 IS practice-able, but it will be a hard jump either way. Are you on the Discord server, Nanonym?

I have a strat. Use the d-pad instead. Press up for the shortest amount of time time you can, then quickly move your finger smoothly to left+down and then directly up shortly after. These inputs are handwritten here and not precise, but should give you an idea: Frames: 1: Up 2: Left 3: Left+Down 4: Left+Down 5: Left+Down 6: Left+Down 7: Up

I'll try that tomorrow in the afternoon. I'll download Discord tomorrow too !

So, I tried your setup with d-pad, but it doesn't work with me.

Maybe another way to do this (Over the Trees) :

  • At Step 8, do a 1-Frame Left. Harry's foot should be about in the middle of a branch.
  • Then, Down-Right. Harry should do a jump against the tree.
  • Just after the jump, Up-Left, and Harry grabs the geometry.

That setup worked twice on 10 tries (I go back to step 1 everytime). The main problem is that Step8 position is random, but when my setup was okay, Harry's foot was in the middle of a branch.

Still trying lots of setups, but it's so close !

Great stuff. I will take a look at some more setups today as well. So far, the d-pad works pretty alright for me. Or realistically, I'd say 1/3 tries succeeds. Where I believe the 3rd try would be a little over a minute out of the 5 minutes we have to still save time with the skip.

Can you upload a video of the D-Pad Strat with Controller next to it ? Can't figure how to execute it.

I pause-buffered one frame too long in the beginning, but luckily we have 2 frames to press left. With practice, it could maybe be done without pause-buffering :D

It's UP for a very short period of time, then DOWN+LEFT for a little longer and then UP again.

Thanks a lot ! For the moment, that's a 20% accuracy on that strat for me. Still working on Over the Trees. Congratulations for your first FireSeedSkip run !

Thanks!

Yeah it's about 20% for me as well. I noticed it was easier the higher up in the trees you get a grab. A new problem popped up in my runs that happened super rare in practice. Over half of my fire seed skip attempts, I fell OoB. It loses a lot of time. I might have way of avoiding it, but that needs more investigation.

OOB occures only when you press Up for too long during Step 7. Just have to be a bit careful when you do, and that will be okay I think (never went to OOB except when I tested Long-Press Up).

Århus, Denmark

No no, it's the very moment where you can walk, after the grab, he does a jump instead, and jumps OoB. Just have to find out if we can counter it.

Example from my run:

Edit: I think actually, if you simply stand still for half a second, he won't jump into OoB when you hit UP. Either that, or he'll drop back down in the level, which is MUCH more preferable than falling OoB. This is just what I believe currently. So the strat is to wait for half a second or something, before you press UP.

I think I have a setup with 80+% for the End. Pr0te, do you have a skype/facebook/email to communicate with you, for you to test before I post it on the forum ?

Discord is probably the easiest. otherwise Steam, maybe :)
