JoeQuake performance and input issues

I really want to start running Quake but I've hit some kind of a block that really annoys me.

I experience slow/jerky mouse movement and it feels really weird and awkward when I'm trying to strafe in the air.

I tried using both -dinput with different m_rate values and -rinput but they do next to nothing to make it feel better.

The other problem I have is that the game lags a LOT! I have a really strong computer that should have no reasonable problem running Quake. Every other game/source port flows like the river. Absolutely beautiful.

I managed to fix the problem a bit by using vid_vsync 0 but the game is still pretty choppy all the time.

I have 2 questions:

Is there some way, I'm not aware of, that I can fix these problems with?

Is it really that important to use this piece of shit source port?

Thanks!

I'm going to assume that you're using JoeQuake since you're the Quake II record holder, you probably know better.

Gonna have to be more specific here.

Try not to use -dinput and -rinput at the same time because it makes a weird stop sometimes when you are bhopping. Use one or the other.

I have the same problem, but it kinda helps to put Quake in high priority via Task Manager.

Yes I "run" the game with JoeQuake. :)

I haven't even thought about using both -dinput and -rinput at the same time lol. To specify, though, I do not use them at the same time and have never done that.

I fixed the lag by using vid_vsync 1 but it makes the mouse movement even more sluggish.

Oh WinQuake... good times

I fixed the issues regarding the weird mouse input lag.

I use the program Rinput 1.31 which I found in the Goldsrc pack on the resource page on the Half-Life leaderboard. The pack itself is quite big but you can find the program on the internet.

If anyone has issues with input lag, try this!

EDIT: I suppose this applies to any game and not just Quake and Half-Life. Have fun
