elgato HD av cable cord?

I am wondering which cord I should be buying for my elgato HD, I have seen some that are the AV cables, and others that are AV and the cable the NES uses, (can't think of the name). my question is which to get? if someone uses this and could link the cord they use maybe? any help is appreciated.

HD capture cards tend to only take HDMI although some take component as well. So, if you have an Elgato HD capture card you cannot use it to capture something from say an NES or a SNES without an upscaler to convert the composite to HDMI.

If you're looking to capture retro consoles and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on an upscaler, I recommend you get a gv-usb2 capture card. It's only around 40 USD so it's not super expensive.

no, I mostly just want the av cables, which do have a cable for them

what console are you trying to capture?

gamecube, n64, ps1/ps2, and not very important but added bonus would be NES, Atari 2600

the one you linked says it does all of those except Atari 2600. they list the Atari Jaguar tho. It's also only a 10 USD cord so that's not bad.

just make sure you have the correct elgato. The one they list it for is the Elgato Game Capture HD

I'm confused, if you know what consoles you're trying to capture and you have the retro adapter, what's the issue?

A search on amazon or really any website that sells cables for "composite cables" will come up with dozens of cables. If you're looking for cables to come out of the console, then you just need to add the console name in front of that search. So like a search for "SNES composite cables" will give you plenty of results. Just note, 3rd party ones can be sketchy and kinda bad so try and get brand name (Nintendo or Sony) when possible for the most reliable performance.

SNES, N64 and GC can all use the same cables. PS1, PS2 and PS3 can all use the same ones as well. The Wii has its own cables. NES and Atari 2600 primarily use RF instead of composite, but the NES can support video and mono sound if you use a composite cable (just a standard one, nothing special needed).

I think they were just posting a link. not that they owned the cord already

Was going to ask the same question, specifically for PS2 -> Elgato HD, found some composite-to-HDMI cables on Amazon but looks like this'll do nicely :)

okay I guess I will have to chime in here: https://i.imgur.com/HhUXfYv.png this is the Elgato Game Capture HD. As you can see here: https://i.imgur.com/gvLmA86.png it has an AV Input, which requires the cable linked above. This will allow capturing any device with the same composite cables. The cable itself does not convert the signal to HDMI, because that is actually impossible. Composite is an analog signal, while HDMI is digital. The device itself converts the signal to HDMI (I actually don't know if the output will work at all, but if it will very likely have input lag).

The very confusing part is that ONLY this specific device has the required AV input. Here's the input I/O for the HD60 version: https://i.imgur.com/2A8Iyma.png The pro version is basically the HD60 on a PCI-E PCB: https://i.imgur.com/HteV2Z1.png No AV Input here either and the HD60 S just replaces the USB port with an updated (I'm guessing) Type-C port: https://i.imgur.com/cyWV6b8.png

TL;DR: The cable linked above only works with the specific device it's made for and is in no form a converter to be used with anything else and newer version of the device don't support it. Please make sure you have the Elgato Game Capture HD, not the HD60 or HD60 S or Pro version.

Wasn't aware of the differences between the models, but I do have the one with the AV input so that's all good, thanks for the clarification though :)
