I mean I'd rather it not be that way but I've always had a long username so its never affected me

It's arbitrary, but it also doesn't affect me so I don't have an opinion lmao.
As long as they eventually get rid of the special character only names, idc.
Whats wrong with special characters? https://www.speedrun.com/user/u doesn't seem to have any issues due to his name. The only issue is with names that have things like periods in them or other punctuation.

As for 4 character minimum, does it matter? No not really. Is it really fucking stupid? Yes it is. Why did they do it? They wanted to be more like twitter or something lol.

Forcing a username to be 3 characters or more is generally not a great idea since there are first names which are 2 characters long and I don't really see why somebody named "Jack" could use their first name as their account name while a person named "Li" can't.

For me it has its positives and negatives.

On the one hand, the length restrictions, as well as the word and character restrictions in the names (you can't have bad words in your name anymore, nor can you have . , - , @, or | ) , has finally made some usernames such as mine "rare". Until this change there weren't any names that were special, because you could basically take any of them that didn't have runs and that were inactive. I can understand why they added those restrictions since every major site has them (Instagram, Twitter, Twitch and so on).

But on the other hand, I still find it stupid that ELO added this months after they bought the website, this should've been one of the first things that they did. They didn't even warn us about this change which is rather big.

I've heard from the mods that they don't plan on removing those names that are now impossible to take because of the restrictions they added, and I don't think they should get rid of the special character names, it wouldn't make sense that they would only delete the special character names and not also deleting the ones that are now invalid. But that's just my opinion.

I can't be @.

@O.D.W.

It's hilarious, really. Though, I guess it's kind of a bother at points.

Was actually going to change it before the takeover, but since it's rare, I'm keeping it.

Post note: a user by the name of IQ replied to my other thread.

Everything seemed normal at first, until someone tried to @IQ, which didn't work the first time. I was a bit confused as to why no one could @ him for like 30 minutes, so I tried to reach out to him and I eventually found him through someone that knew the owner of the account. We talked for a bit, but then I found something even stranger.

He sent me this GIF of him trying to change his theme. For some reason, whenever he tries to add a theme, he gets defaulted to this theme, and is unable to change the banner, the logo and the background image. I have no idea why this happens but this is an obvious downside and I don't think he's the only one experiencing this issue.

There is also @_ who has a rejected run that he did not submit, someone submitted a Brawl Stars Co-Op run with only 1 person (it was a rickroll) and the moderator couldn't leave the run with just 1 player so he had to put 2 other people and he put @_ and @__. So, there are some pretty big downsides as well that come from having these names.
