An Appeal to my Rejected Runs

Yesterday I submitted some co-op runs of me and other players doing speedrunning achievements. I made a mistake in that I placed my webcam in a place that blocks showing what mods a person I'm playing with is using, if they are using any at all. I understand that the rules require that I show that other players are not using any mods when I submit a run, and I understand why this is. However, I think if someone messes this up, it would be better to make a nuanced decision on a case-by-case basis rather than a blanket "reject all runs that don't strictly adhere to our rules" policy. Yes I failed to show that another player wasn't using anything other than the speedrunning mod/RNG modifier (the other players showed they had no mods installed just fine), but that's the only mistake I made in my submissions. I ask that my rejected runs be approved, and here's my case why they should be:

  • The runs were livestreamed, and in fact the specific reason why I livestream all my runs is so people can't claim that they're cheated, spliced, or otherwise faked.

  • The is no evidence in what can be seen that mods were used or that the runs were otherwise cheated.

  • You can see that I myself am using no mods besides the speedrunning mod and RNG modifier, I (attempt to) show that the other players are not using mods besides those two if they are using any at all, and I admit to my mistake in the run submissions. Why would I engage in this level of transparency, or otherwise try to follow the rules as closely as possible, if I was trying to pass off faked runs as legitimate?

  • As I mentioned already, the only problem with my submissions is that my webcam blocks showing that the other players are not using mods. Other than that however, what reason is there to believe that the runs are not legitimate?

There is more reason to believe that the runs are legitimate than not. And if you really don't want to take my word, or JumpingBamboo's word for it, you can contact the other players we played with (who played completely unmodded), and they can vouch for us: https://steamcommunity.com/id/BlasterBlade/ https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198048630742/

And just to be clear, in the future I will place my webcam in a spot that doesn't block any important HUD details.

Hello Marco

I'm sorry for you. I understand your disappointment. But rules are rules. I don't make any difference for each Speedrunners who submit runs. For the simple reason that everyone should be treated equally. Why you and not another ? If we close our eyes to your run, we have to do it for others too. It does not work like that. And to be clear I refused the run only because your webcam hid the HUD of your speedrunning mod. Not because your friend are using mods and that I didn't see the entire list. For the next time, just be careful

If the reason my runs were rejected is because my webcam blocked the HUD of my speedrunning mod, then you should know that this is what the HUD looks like when you use other mods along with the speedrunning mod: https://imgur.com/wYEiN5E

It may appear to, but my webcam doesn't actually block the speedrunning mod part of my HUD at all, and I made sure it didn't before starting my stream. The speedruning mod in the HUD of my rejected runs is no more covered than in these runs, which were accepted: https://www.speedrun.com/pd2/run/m31454gz https://www.speedrun.com/pd2/run/yv3k6d8z

His full stream is still available so I did research and found this:

He uncovered that HUD before playing so you can see that no other content is present under his webcam overlay. When I check his gameplay, you can easily recognize that he is not using anything else than gamepad.

"The speedruning mod in the HUD of my rejected runs is no more covered than in these runs, which were accepted: https://www.speedrun.com/pd2/run/m31454gz " Your others runs are good because we can see the borders of the HUD.

I have no doubt that your run was legitimate, but as Awake explained the video you posted does not allow for proper verification because of your webcam. Circumstancial evidence like your livestream can't be accepted if you don't explicitely link it in your submission. Feel free to repost submissions containing the whole stream (make sure you set it up so that Twitch doesn't delete the VOD after a while, or export it) and the timecode of the runs.

By the way, you don't necessarily have to show other players' mods in your runs. Of course it would be significantly more transparent if everyone did, but that's not convenient for runners to show it after a run (easily forgettable), and it's possible to evade the mod list and tweaking mods so that they don't display there.

CoopeZz, thank you for having my back. I have resubmitted my runs with the clip that CoopeZz posted. I still argue that rules are more of a guideline to make sure that nobody cheats, and not necessarily "follow everything exactly like this or else we won't accept your run". The run not being cheated is more important than following all of the rules 100% completely to the letter. Also, the idea that my HUD was "covered" simply because the borders weren't visible, even though you can still clearly see that I'm not using any other mods, is ridiculous.

i had a problem when i started speedrunning too. i forget to delete a colour mod of wolf hud. it dont give you something for speedrunning, but i accepted it is against the rules and so i do a new run and it was verified. then i had problems with this rng mod and mostly "pizza" helped me to understand why its good for runs: you dont have to spend to much time with bad rng trys!
