Need clarification on emulation and in game saves for a run
United States

Hello All.

I checked the FAQ'S, and it advises to "make a forum post in that game or message the mods of the game to ask about it" however the game I am planning on running has no runs submitted ever despite being over 20 years old, has no dedicated forum or Discord channel I can find, and specifically says there are no moderators.

First, In general, if game and category rules do not specify anything either way on emulation is it allowed?

Second, while Save States are not allowed in a run, if the game has its own save and load functions is that allowed within an any% run?

what might "the game" (you lost) be?

Since it has no runs submitted ever I'd rather not say until I have my run complete. I just want to make sure if it will be considered a valid run if I use emulation and in game saves before I sink a significant chunk of time into it.

Depending on what console it is there are sometimes very inaccurate emulators, so you should at least make sure it's one of the most accurate emulators to use. Hard to give you any concrete advice without you saying anything about the game though.

save/load within the game are usually allowed in most game. There are of course games (like several from the Zelda series) that traditionally went towards a "no save and quit" main category but those are exceptions. In the end, when there are no runs at all so far, you can pretty much make the rules yourself and put them on the boards.
