Modern games no longer speedrun friendly??

I'm new to the speedrun community but I wanted to hear people's thoughts on this.

So I'm mainly an Xbox player and I've noticed both Xbox One titles and Backwards Compatible titles almost always have game updates. Majority of times there's no new in-game content so I assume these updates are mainly bug fixes. If this is the case does this mean finding minute saving out of bounds or helpful glitches are harder to find now because they can be patched out. Do some people like this change where now we have separate categories for different game patches?

Is this an actual issue for the future for speedruning or is this in line with the natural order of speedrunning where major skips aren't discovered till well after a games release and by that stage game devs have moved on and no longer update single player sections of game.

Any ways I'd love to hear people thoughts on this.

There is no such thing as "speedrun friendliness", remember, we're exploiting things the devs didn't think about and/or straight up bugs in their code. if anything, devs should hate speedrunners for exposing their incompetence. and fixing bugs is in their best interest, as there's always a slim chance someone would not buy a future game because they had a gamebreaking bug. (well, except for bethesda apparently, people are eating their shit up regardless of how buggy it is)

well, for PC it definitely isn't an issue since they can downgrade at will Kappa

but for consoles, it tends to either generate subcategories for versions or people just suck it up, heck, even back in the day this was a issue with, for example OoT, which has like 2 updated versions that you can't use for certain runs because bugs are fixed.

It a Double Eage Sword but speedrunning isnt just about to skip the game only anyway to be honest... it just about u end the game as fast as possible record not about find bug or glith. it not a main point in speedrun at all. in fact it bug and glith is about itself not speedrunning.

This issue is why Super Mario Odyssey 1.3 was such a big deal. Most of the major OoBs were patched between 1.1 and 1.2. So when the version that everyone can access is the fastest, it's great since it removes all unfairness for people who didn't manage to avoid updating from 1.0.
