Ultra mini-boost timings

Hi all. I'm currently trying to learn the route similar to the WR for Shy Guy Falls 150cc in MK8D but in the current WR video he seems to hit his ultra mini-boost much faster than I am able to in game even when taking the same pathing.

Getting the long boost from the start, drift into the first corner with orange boost out, then hard pull right for two coins and stay tight to the right wall. In the video () he gets his ultra mini-boost before he crosses the anti-grav strip on the floor, but when I take the same line my boost doesn't hit purple until after this. Also when driving down the waterfall he is able to hit the blue mini-boost TWICE before the ramp, but even with the same amount of coins I can only hit one blue boost.

TL;DR is there a secret to getting the purple mini-boost as fast as possible? I've tried turning tighter and extending my drift radius and I cannot get my boost anywhere near as quick.

Could be softdrifting, look up a tutorial on softdrifting on youtube. It is also on the guides page on this website

Yep, it’s all about hitting the right softdrift angle for that corner. It’s very difficult to get it as quickly as WR does, but it can be done. It doesn’t lose much time if it charges a bit later, though, so I wouldn’t spend too much time stressing about that corner in particular. Just learn about and practice softdrifting in general. That should help with all mini-turbos in general and address most other questions in that area you might have.

Ahh I didn't know softdrifting was a thing. True that I don't really need it for the first part but for his shortcut to work I need the softdrift to skip the grass jump so I can save the mushroom for the last corner. The boost usually doesn't charge fully before you hit the grass.

Thanks for the advice!
