So i was looking at runs and saw that a mod verified their own run, i didnt know that they could to this, ya know cuz it isnt the same as having a completely different person verify it. could someone explain please?

If it's a valid run that they've retimed and checked theirselves then I don't see a problem with this. I guess it's a frowned upon practice, but it's perfectly fine to me. If you actually see a problem (ie. A fake run done and verified by a mod) then that's a cause for concern. But as far as I know that's not happened in the game.

The mods are not crooks, they just want their runs verified faster. I think they deserve it - they are taking time out of their lives to verify a game.

Yes, we can verify our own runs. I personally try to avoid verifying my own runs, but I've done it. I know all the mods pretty well and I'd doubt that someone would be trying to slip something under the radar. Also, if something is weird or incorrect, it seems there's a decent amount of you guys out there looking for errors and will bring it up. If you do find something wrong, by all means, bring it up.

Adding on to what @roopert83 said, logically speaking, it's really unlikely that a mod for a game would jeopardize the integrity of their game by verifying their own fake run.

Although the SMB1 community is pretty large and well respected, there are a few games with very small communities, or just one runner where the only mod verify's his run and on the occasion I have seen some sketchy runs... I don't think its really a problem in a community like SMB1 but I still think people should never verify their own runs.

People should just wait for their run to be viewed and verified by someone else, just like everyone else... but that is my opinion.

EDIT: People should also put more effort into verifying self verified runs, but I can't act like I really do much myself.

All the mods livestream their attempts anyway - which removes 95% of how people could cheat anyway - can't splice with a livestream upload =)
