Hello, I'm new speedrunning and I was thinking about trying to speedrun Shapez.io and I was wondering if I could get some tips on how I could get started?
I would take a look at the current records for an idea of how the setup of the run is done: https://www.reddit.com/r/shapezio/comments/i2950p/copypaste_1951_wr/
I have done my first run last week and, although the audio quality is crappy, it might be a good place to start. I try to explain what I am doing, but it's my first time doing a video, so its kinda cringe ngl.
I basically started by trying to route for myself using the Wiki for the game. Here are the links that I used:
- https://shapezio.fandom.com/wiki/Upgrading
- https://shapezio.fandom.com/wiki/Efficient_Designs (only some of these are useful for speedrunning, just go with the easiest to tile quickly)
I am working today, but I should have time to create a guide for how I got started at some point with my order and targets per level that I used for my 46m run.
I threw together a rough guide in case you want to get going. I plan on updating it with more information and as I learn myself. https://www.speedrun.com/shapez.io/guide/qgryd
Thank you very much with the information. I tried out my first speedrun and got 1:13:43 and then the next time I ran which was yesterday i got 1:00:31. I am only playing on the demo and not the full version but i do plan on getting the full version. I haven't videoed either version but i do have screenshots.
For verification of runs, you will likely want to use https://livesplit.org/ for the timer and https://obsproject.com/ for recording. They are pretty straightforward to setup. Smallant has a tutorial here:
Again, Thank you for the information and helping with getting things set up. I have tried to install LiveSplit but it won't work for me. Is there any other good speedrun timers you can recommend?
LiveSplit is the one I use and that I've seen most used in speedrunning. You can try asking in the speedrunning subreddit for some help getting setup or for alternatives.
