What about some of the performance enhancing commands?

In Rvgl, you can run a launch command named -sload which disables the loading screen, therefore loading a bit quicker on slow PCs like mine. If it doesnt affect the normal game, only the load times would it be allowed? It would be like certain games loading faster on japanese versions

This is accessible to anyone using RVGL, which is by far the most used version, and freely available, so I don't even think it's like certain games loading faster on Japanese versions. This is especially important to those using pc's with certain Intel GPU's, like my laptop: on those GPU's, since one of the more recent versions (and it probably won't be fixed, has been confirmed by the author), the loading screen hangs/freezes for a couple of seconds when it's completed loading. I did a timing test: if I start a Botanical Garden Time Trial with -sload, it takes 3-4 seconds to load. If I start a Botanical Garden time trial without -sload, it takes 8-10 seconds to load. Also, without -sload being allowed, those on such Intel GPU's would have a clear disadvantage to those using other graphic cards. But as this isn't mentioned in the rules... isn't it allowed by default? :P Are there any launch parameters that alter the game in a way that would be obviously disallowed? Edit: Well, yeah, -dev, of course.

As RVGL is used by most, and the rules don't specify this, I think it should be allowed. As it only makes the game faster. With games with loading times there will always be an advantage for people with higher end spec PC's. Thus I think it should be allowed as it is accessible to anyone.

Personally, I'm not a fan of source-ports that modify the game in some way, but since this is just loading screens we're talking about, I'm fine with it even though I don't run this game... yet. The freezing for a couple seconds sounds like a compatibility issue with modern OS anyway.

The original version of Re-Volt won't work on newer OSes anyway, and I doubt many people have a Windows 98 pc set up still. And even if it would work, since XP, there's a 'GO' glitch in the original game. During the race, it sporadically says 'GO' and the timer resets, which makes all competitive modes not work as intended anymore. I think that should be disallowed, even though it's interesting behaviour. RVGL is a lot more stable, and is meant to improve the original game, not make a new game. :) Thanks for your input, though, Ewil!
