Stardew Valley Speed Run Categories

So I did the 50k Earnings the other day to test it out, and it seemed fun, and lots of potential for optimizing for sure. I also added a Level 50 mines run, which I haven't tried but I think would probably be a better run for speed running. And I know this game was kind of meant to be a slow paced relaxing style game, but to me that's part of what makes it fun to try and run fast, because you're not really supposed to.

So my thought is maybe another much higher earnings run, or maybe a level 100 mine run as well if people actually try and run this game. Another category could be getting married, but I still haven't even done that for my main game, so Im not sure how it works exactly or how fast it can be done. That's all the runs I thought would work but if you think you know of a better idea, please feel free to suggest it.

Hey I just did the 50K Earnings run, could definitely shave off a lot of time off mine, I was mostly testing. I think having different Earnings runs could be good and having one to complete house upgrades.

I want to do an all bundles run, but its gonna take a long time. Like, I'm talking 12 hours....

I don't like level 50 mines I think 40 is better but it's each to their own opinion I guess. I like the sound of wife% or things for individual bundles, like bus% for completing the bundle that gets you the bus.

Also does the 50k earnings mean money you have then, or total money earned??

Edit just watched the VOD of the run and its 50k total. Will probs give this a try tonight

Wow, I super happy other people are this interested, I thought at first when I submitted the request for this game I would be the only run for a long time.

@Rincewood Awesome, I was going to try a straight farming running on my next attempt, I was thinking it would be much much faster, and you proved me right. Just added your run, good first submission for sure.

@CCNeverender Basically if you do a run and submit it there's a 99% chance Ill add a category for it for now as long as its a new category not like 60K earnings or something too similar to others.

@testicles12 May I ask why 40 would be batter? Just seemed like 50 was a nice round number, along with 100. It was also suggested I do 90 instead of 100 as well. If you want to make a post and we could have further discussions about it. It was just an idea off the top of my head when I was doing my first bad run.

well level 40 was probably because that when it changes to the ice and iron mine.

Yeah level 40 I preferred because thats when it changes to ice, and I feel that to be completely different from the first 40 levels.

@testicles12 I saw your recent submission but the video doesn't work for me I get this http://puu.sh/nD9EH/8e909ef905.png

Maybe re-upload it with different background music or no sound.

Also to both testicles12 and Rincewood and anyone else that cares, I have made a new forum post about that discussion, along with polls so everyone can vote on what they would like to see.

England

Reuploading with no sound tomorrow, sorry about that.

As for the polls, I have voted in both with my preferences

I think it would be very cool to see a category of this game where you fulfill your grandpa's requirements to beat it, while it may be a longer run it is the best run idea I can think of.

@testicles12 So I dont know why but the video works for me now, you're good to go.

@mrplozaj That seems like it would be a very long run.

I also thought about some categories for Stardew Valley:

  • Any% - Finish the Community Center
  • Mine % - Finish the Mine at the end of Spring (or get to Level X / We allready have that here)
  • 100% - Get 13/13 Rating from Grandpa after Year 2 and complete the "Shipping List"
  • Friendship% - Get Everyone in Town to at least 8 (or less or more) Hearts in the first Year (should be no Problem with getting Every Birthday and gifting every day.
  • Marriage% - Get your Husband/Wife as fast as Possible
  • Single Bundle % - Get Bundle X
  • Legend% - Catch all Legendary Fishs
  • Joja% - Buy a Joja Membership and buy at Least x (one or two or all) Upgrades
  • Protector% - Complette all Adventure Guild Goals

There could be soooo many. Personally I like the 100% (Long run, many ways to Improve that) and the Friendship%. But I'll try my hand at a 50k tomorrow :D

England

a lot of these runs would be extremely long and not overly interesting to watch, im waiting for a problem i have to be fixed before i start recording and submitting any runs but i was thinking some of the run categories could be: -any% ends when the grandpa dream appears since that's sorta like an ending to the game since there is no credits -marriage% ends as the wedding ceremony starts -single room, ends when the room repair cutscene starts

  • 50% and 100% mine categories for reaching floor 60 and floor 120

they're my suggestions for some shorter runs and then obviously 4 candle and other 100% runs could be longer if people are willing to run them

United States

@mrploszaj - If you want to run grandpa% (or is that any% at that point?) you are more then welcome, long runs seem very daunting to me but to each there own.

@ph1l - Awesome suggestions, right now Im kinda leaving it open for people to submit the runs they want to do. After making the level 50 min category I got a lot of feedback it should be done differently so, I want to community to decide how the runs should work. If you have one you want to do specifically just give it a run and submit it, unless its something really dumb or very similar to another category I will probably accept it, because I agree there's so many run options.

@SpaceGoat while I agree about the longer runs some people enjoy running multiple hours instead of just 30-50 minutes. But I will probably make one of the better longer runners a mod so they can verify the longer records, because that is something I'm not looking forward too, plus there should be more then just one mod for this game.

On a separate discussion I was thinking about a interesting way to set up runs. Speedruns.com has full game categories and level categories for leaderboards, so I was thinking of setting up an all bundle category for full game then splitting each bundle into its one level category. This would open up a lot of run options for different bundles as well as adding in a longer run for people.

Sorry, for soundless video. Editing software I used to chop out unnecessary time must've done something with my audio XD Uploading the raw file now and will edit my current submission with an edit in the comments.

Sorry to post in such a dead thread but I didn't feel like I could justify making a new one.

I did the run for the kinda any% thing where you just sleep until grandpa shows up because It takes no time and I felt like it (I called it 0% because I didn't know what name to use)

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if this is never a category since I obviously don't really run Stardew but if it becomes a category I'd submit it.

thats a funny idea for 0% i like it and thought about doing it but thought people would be mad xD you can save time by swinging the scythe instead of taking steps

1.6 Leaderboard Updates

Alright folks, it's been a week since 1.6 dropped and it's already been a wild start! So many new mechanics, QoL fixes, and general nonsense. We're going to start lifting the embargo here on 1.6 runs, sometime tonight the options should populate on SRC and you'll be able to select the new version. W
