Question about the timer

so, I play on switch. the monitor where the capture card is recording the footage is further away. Point is, I don't have some kind of timer that most speedrunners do when streaming where they hit some button or whatever at different points to stop a timer.

Could I record a run, then take the time I get when it ends and subtract the time from when it starts? For example, say the video is near 2 hours. Final hit on Shredder is at 1:40:23, and I picked my character at 0:1:20. So, I would take the 1:40:23 and subtract 0:1:20 from it.

I did that for another game I did runs of, but it was a game nobody cares about or even know exists.

An option that can also be applied to go along with your suggestion is after your run is done you could pull up the recorded file in OBS slap a timer on it (can just be a singular timer as splits aren't necessary) and then do exactly what you suggested and then this will ALSO give the mods a visual which would be IDEAL for a quick turn around on an accurately timed run. Thanks for asking too!

Along the lines of the original post, I do not own a computer, just consoles and smartphones. Should I even bother attempting to submit a run via YouTube streams, even if I provide mods with timestamps of start and finish?

Yay I made the leaderboard... got creamed as well, but hey, no worries.

Curious as to when timer starts, though, as my submitted stream contained about 3min of previous attempt before I restarted (timestamps were included). Just wondering if the mod used first start and finish instead of the actual complete run.

Again, not that it matters much, as either way my time has been destroyed...

Let me review, but the timing starts on control of Turtle and timing ends on 0 health Super Shredder (he starts to do that weird defeated animation.

Reviewed and yes that was the case, updated and thanks for the patience!

In a similar regard, if you say... missed your final split button. Can the time be submitted based on when the final hit of shredder is landed?

The recording has the timer on screen the entire time, but it took me 3 seconds extra because I fumbled for the split. XD

Submit the correct time for your run regardless of what any on screen timer says. At the end of the day the timer is a tool for you, viewers, & helpful for mods of SRC, but the run time is whatever it is despite what the timer says.

Right, timers are just a tool, and splits aren't necessarily indicative of what the actual time is. All the runs get retimed anyway, so if you don't want to do it yourself you're free to submit whatever your splits say.
