well to sell them yes but to play or speedrun no since games like pocket monsters 1 and pocket monsters 2 are on speedrun.com. so speedruning it would not be breaking speedrun.com rules

since what diffrent from a bootleg and fan game is bootleg not for sale pretty much a fan game since pokemon rom hacks get sold all the tiem on ebay so in that sense all pokemon rom hacks are bootlegs since people sell them on ebay

New York, USA

so a bootleg isn't for sale but rom hacks that get sold are bootlegs? Dude check your logic Also if you really think it's not a fan game resubmit it and explain why it should be its own game or a mainline game

i just mean how is fan game and a bootleg different from each other . only thing is one had payed for and one you don,t is it illegal sell bootegs yes but it also illegal to make fan games and why fan games like pixelmon and pokemon brickbronze and pokemon uranium and some metroid remakes get taken down since there not allowed too but we are allowed to play and speedrun them.

Pretty sure English isn't this guy's first language so chalk it up to that

making bootlegs and making fan games either one you do your game can be taken down.

you make fan games because you are a fan of the game/series you make bootlegs because you want to cash in on the game/series name

like there a bunch pokemon rom hacks on ebay for sale does that make them bootlegs?

Canada

like pokemon brick bronze on roblox made money

United States

@jojoretrogamer I would say that romhacks found on Ebay would be considered fangames if they are available on the internet for free (or in very rare circumstances, paid). It's more that fangames treat the source material with care, which is something bootlegs do not do. But a random person taking a romhack, putting it on a cartridge, and selling it wouldn't make it a bootleg.

Also, most fangame creators know that trying to make money off of fangames is a great way to get a copyright strike, so they don't do it.
