Any stories that you want to share while you were speedrunning a game or why did you decide to speedrun that specific game

(I don't know if this thread already exists or not)

I was fighting for a wr with about 4 other people in level 1 for My Friend Pedro Mobile. It took around a month for them to stop this. I ended 4th.

Went for an IL record against @Sandstorm187. We PB'd many times, I probably grinded that level +12 hours

got nothing interesting really. in like 2018 i found a childhood pc game of mine "muumit ja taikurin hattu" (its a point and click educational game from 97) while i was in a voice call with two others. i dont remember really how it went but i think i started screensharing me playing it and its like 90% rng so of course i then decided to start running it because what else would you do. it became a "grind" for sub 30 and had many fun streams running it :D

I joined this site last year when I saw that the Foxbot leaderboard had been added. It's a game I'd already spent dozens of hours running in 2019, and it is by far the game I've spent the most time speedrunning. I'm currently running it again, and even set a new pb in the full game category just a few hours ago, for the first time in over a year. I've put hundreds of hours into this game, and I've enjoyed almost all of them.

However, I actually did not like Foxbot the first time I played through it, didn't plan on playing it again, and it's pretty much a fluke that I ever even played it a second time. That's the shocking truth behind the game I love.

I once grinded a mediocre fighting game for over a week so I could beat an 11 year old WR

Immense amount of RNG and fighting for single digit milliseconds

One time someone joined the scratch game speedrunning discord, posted a video of a run they did, said something like "I JUST KILLED THE CATEGORY, THIS WORLD RECORD IS UNBEATABLE!!!!!!" and then left the server. I don't like when people call runs unbeatable, because they almost never are, so I spent 10 minutes doing runs and ended up getting the world record. I had never even played the game before this. This turned into a very brief back and forth trading world records, but after I got a sub 20 run, he gave up because he couldn't beat it.

Edit: I was going to get the link to the run, and I found out that he left a comment saying "I'm gonna get this wr." He never did lol. Someone else managed to beat it though. https://www.speedrun.com/osg/run/z5dk1edm

Don't really have anything interesting to tell. For me, its a hobby and a joy. I'll do what I can try to do, to be competitive

Maybe as a cool story I could mention the 13h session where I only stopped for 20 minutes that I did learning and grinding a game that I hadnt played to win a competition on the last day while attending online classes and being in a vc with my friends (who dont know I speedrun games). I ended up getting the wr only 40 minutes before the end and I won. Its cool that I won like that, it was fun

Raced a 100% completion thing in super mario party against @anglel on a whim for what was a completely blank category. After around 9-10 hours of streaming and competing, I won, so I figured I'd have the 'WR' at least for a short while. Turns out there was a pending run completed a day or two before we did our runs. It was still a fun time though, but that was kinda sad.

I used to be alright at Mii Maestro RTA for Wii Music. At the time the world record was 6:04 by @Sp33dMachine and I averaged around 6:20. Now Back then Mii Maestro speedruns were basically having an aneurysm quick enough to get good, and there was no technique besides menuing. And then I found out that moving the Wiimote in a circle was really efficient and was able to get wr with a 6:00, later getting a 5:58, which was the first sub 6 in the category. Then literally one hour later @cyndifusic got a 5:55 with the old method, and then 30 minutes later @Th3on3C found a new method and was able to bring down the run to 4:58, with other top runners in the category being able to match it except it me 🥲. So basically after that I stopped trying runs of Wii Music and gave up on the Wii series as a whole speedrun wise, only coming back for Wii Custom Content, but that is about it.

I spent about 3h doing a run, and it was my first time speedrunning the game too; I hit the three hour mark, was on literally the second last level, and the device I was using to record died, so I wasted 3 hours of my life and didn't even get a place on the leaderboard.

The game was Kirby And The Forgotten Land btw.

i was playing crash nitro kart on gba and i was thinking: i'm able to speedrun this?, Then for fun i tried but ended with a time of 56 Mins the record was 48:50 by @LoMpE. After i see that i said: There is NO way i will be ever close to that. Before 2 months i signed up here and starter grinding for good (i was playing this game long before any of that, so i was skilled but i wanted a test) My first run got me a 6th place, then on my second run got 4th place and finally on last run got 3rd place also very close to 2nd position, i was stunned after seeing that... Now i'm optimizing the level times.
