Quick question about controls

I use the Xbox elite controller to play Super Metroid as I find mapping dash to the back paddle is just the comfiest way for me to play, loved the game since I was a kid and watching these randomiser tournaments has made me enjoy the game even more recently, but if I was to ever get good enough to compete, would it even be “legal” for me using my elite controller?

yeah. most SM tournaments have plenty of leeway with regards to controller choice.

To expand on what Chish has said, the controller type doesn't really matter, BUT the controller layout does, a little bit. You can find more information at https://wiki.supermetroid.run/Leaderboard_Submission_Rules#Controllers , but importantly you can't have 2 of the same shoulder inputs (R1 + R2), because the original console didn't allow for that mapping. We'd like to stay as close to the original functionality of the SNES controller and mappings as possible
