8-track/Sea Change Bug

There is a bug that the finish line sometimes does not count you passing through, basically forcing you to make an extra round. The only 2 levels where I ever saw this happen are 8-track (rarely) and Sea Change (fairly often). Does anyone have any idea why this happens and/or how to avoid it?

I think it has something to do with speed and/or acceleration...

Yeah this has been known for a while, there's a couple forum posts on it. I think it is generally something to do with colliding with the wall just before crossing the finish line, but we aren't sure.

yeah you get it mostly with a weird collision, feels like to me there is a 1 pixel gap in the finish line or something. It is possible to do it without collision too tho. It also works on Regulator and Wave Lair.

From the cases of this that happened to me in 8-track, I always thought that the bug is that the finish line is not to the very right, so if you hug the wall, you do not cross it. But that is entirely different than what is happenning to me in Sea Change - it basically just decides randomly when to count and when not and it gets really frustrating :(

Most reasonable theory I have is that in 8-track, this actually happens on the finish line, but in Sea Change, it happens when passing a different, secret checkpoint...

Yeah sea change is weird, the "secret" checkpoint seems right. It is also labelled as a Round Trip course when it acts like a Hot Laps one. Just a buggy track. I had the glitch happen twice on a any% run, my 24min one i think. So glad we dont have to do it any more lol.

Yeah, I was pretty burnt-out by it when running 100% recently, but no that I realized that it is probably because of a secret checkpoint, it happens way less and when it happens, I feel like it is my fault, so that is fine :)

I think the problematic checkpoint is in the middle of the track, right before the long speed boost (mirroring the position of the finish line). And the finish line may be buggy too, did not analyse it that much...

I noticed that if I hit the outer wall on 8-Track it still counts, but if I slide a good distance before it, it does not.

I can say that I have checked for the checkpoint on Sea Change and at first, it seemed like it was consistent that lining up with the outer wall on the speed boost does cause it not to count. However, there are moments when I have come close to that and it still counted. I'll continue testing it.

I think I've figured out how to recreate the glitch on 8-Track. It's not a gap in the finish line. If you pass too close to the left wall after the start/finish line (I don't know where the area starts, but it ends a bit before the curve begins). This seems consistent with when the glitch happened on the other videos here on the forum.
