Any% Runs That Doesn't Start with a New Game?

I'm curious. Are there any games out there that has their any% not requiring the player to start at a new game but a game that has been played through? I'm not talking about new game plus categories where weapons and abilities from the previous game carries over. I would imagine it's rare that any game like this is ran in such a way.

I say this because I moderate a game where most of the required dungeons are late game and most guides require the player casually to get a follower to help out in most of these fights. My game's any% is one of those get extremely good with the game skills but can still screw up if you're not careful with the match.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking. I feel like any% by definition involves beating a game from start to end, so would start from a new game.

@techee The category you are describing is most commonly referred to as "NG+" or in some cases, "All Levels".

I presume that is the case. But another assumption of mine is a game where you can do a regular Any% run without the NG+ attributes on an already completed file. Ie you can do both the NG and NG+ run simultaneously. If that's the case, then yes, it is a rare case. One game that came to my mind is Shrek the Third game. The run started not on clicking "New Game" unless you completely wipe your save files. Instead, you start by clicking Introduction. The NG+ element in this game is in the form of costumes that gives you special attributes. Those costumes can be triggered on and off at will, so you technically can do both the NG Any% and NG+ in the same file.

There was a brief moment where a couple Hyper Light Drifter runners (myself included) were doing "any% boss rush escape" as a category. Boss Rush uses the same rooms as a boss normally appears in, with door transitions repurposed. But the Eastern boss room has 3 doors, and the devs forgot to remove the transition on one, so you can clip out of bounds to reach it and enter a room in the Eastern biome with all abilities and upgrades (more than NG+ even!). And then beat the game from there.

It didn't really catch on because the category is quite similar to any% NG+, and also most runners prefer NMG

The way you wrote your message made it very hard to understand. If it's not NG+ you're referring to, then what is it?

The main full game category for Foxbot doesn't require resetting the saved data before you run, the saved data being which levels you've unlocked and your best time in each level. It doesn't affect the run itself—you have to beat all the levels in order either way—just your ability to practice the later levels.

Probably plenty of other webgame platformers with the same sort of thing, where you don't have to reset the unlocked levels.
