New Management!?

Hello Fellow speed runners soooo I wasn’t aware of this but the other 2 mods left or got kicked either or and honestly I have no idea why and today I decided to check up on the speed runners (It’s been like 3 months) to see if there’s new records and come to find out I’m by myself 😟 it honestly caught me by surprise I was just a normal mod doing little things nothing to crazy and now I’m the super mod PROMOTION!! But don’t worry now that I Know I’m the only one left I will clean things up here a bit but I personally would love y’all feedback I’ve looked at the past forms and notice that some want a In-game category I will be looking into that and seeing what other things need to be fixed please let me know any feedback y’all have I will try to check daily

Personally I think an In game category would be a good Add I’ve suggested it back when the other mods where there but they shut it down I think it would be a good idea considering we have emulator runners and with the right pc,specs, settings it could cut down load times by a lot if the in game time actually only calculates your fighting time then we should have it because some people out there don’t have the option to go with the emulator route and they have to stick with normal Xbox or ps

I very much disagree. I would say make it a secondary category, but as with any game that can use emulators to gain an unfair advantage over base hardware they should be excluded from the core leaderboard by default. Especially in a game like this, menuing and navigational skills can play a big part in a run and create a sizable divide between players and is a big part of the skill in speedrunning the game.

Thanks for sticking around DopeyAlex. I appreciate you being here. SilentProtagonist does bring up a good point about emu vs console for igt. Emu can 3x through all loading times and menuing and get a lot more runs in potentially. This is a tricky one indeed.

From what I’m thinking is making consoles the secondary category and the Emulators primary I only say that because most of the runs are emulators with just a few consoles

As I said in the other forum post. If people want a category for IGT I think it should be it's own category. Allowing Emu times in the same runs as hardware times gives them a massive advantage, due to the fact that the game has a LOT of load time in it already, and should be removed to a second category by default. IGT is already tracked, and once Emu times aren't confusing the hell out of folks they can give runners a good idea of how their fight efficiency and menuing/navigation efficiency stacks up against other runners and where they can improve. Menuing and navigation is just as big a skill for speedrunning this game as spamming punch/haymaker is, if not much more so.

I would disagree with hardware being the secondary category. Realistically, it's not proper to give primary status to people who speedrun the game on their PC (who may or may not even own a proper copy of the game) and can make the game less attractive for marathon hosts if people submit runs to try and get a live spot, since all marathons require hardware runs for live events (and many even for online events).

For twitch users all you got to do is highlight it and it will stay.

Also Thinking of adding level runs like who can beat crow the fastest after i add the in game time but question for the ingame time would yall want me to have emu and hardware together or separate ingame time category's??

For In-Game time, I am not 100% sure, but I believe that it only counts from the fight starting until the KO. So long as the FPS is the same between them, there shouldn't be a difference (if my understanding of the IGT is correct).

silent i noticed you havent done a run yet but your really active in the def jam page any reason why you havent done a run?

Texas, USA

Yeah now that you explained it alot better than i ever could it makes alot more sense so now i can really see why this was pushed to the side if you want i can go through the story and show just how low it can go if you really take your time vs a real time run

@DopeyAlex Been doing other runs thus far in what little free time I've had. Hard to find time to speedrun all the games I want to speedrun since I work full time, do YT videos, other projects, etc. 🤣🤣😭

On the topic of what Banta546 posted up, it may be worth it to make a section for each console under each category. That way at least things will be a bit more uniform with the load times that runs are being subjected to. I am unsure of how those get added in though, been trying to figure it out for ages myself for games I am a mod for. (Ex. Banjo-Kazooie 100% category and the N64/Xbox split)

Okay so to My understanding y’all wanted a In game time now we don’t want that I just want what y’all would think it’s best for the speed runners I’m hear to listen and take everything y’all say into account I’m not like the other modders before me where they push things off and just didn’t communicate with y’all if you think something should be added or removed I will try to have a discussion with each of y’all so from what I’m seeing banta is against In game time category and hax is with in game time I’m unsure what silent sides with tho and if y’all think me separating hardware consoles is best for this run then I will do so but it has to be a group decision banta I get where you are coming from and I agree the old modders did a lot of shady and scummy stuff but I’m not them I actually want to listen to everyone’s opinion and make things great again in this speedrun but please note Ive never been a super mod in any speedrun game so I’m also learning as I go to perfect this new role that was throw upon me 😂 so please if y’all think I should add and separate the hardware consoles then I will do so accordingly

I think the console should stay as one just like in other popular speedruns like battle for bikini bottom where they go allout on the best types of xboxs for use and stuff but they dont separate them between xbox ps2 and xbox360. Also igt just saying that as much as i would like to support it i agree with banta in terms of you can restart as many times as you like to get every fight to around 11 seconds for 1v1 and free for all and tag team to under 45 seconds. Which is why i think it is logical to just keep it as real-time primarily and igt as a secondary stat.

I think the following.

Adding an IGT category as a category extension could be a cool alternate run for those who are interested in it. Keeping IGT display in the main section, while continuing to track off RTA is the best option. Splitting consoles, like in other popular speedruns such as Banjo-Kazooie, is the best option if each console is subjected to different load times. This allows for people to compete on the leaderboards under fair and balanced circumstances. Keeping Emulators as a separate category is the best option, for the same reason as having split console boards, as Emulators on good PCs can basically eliminate load times.

The splitting consoles i would not agree on because this game is only on 6th gen consoles ps2 xbox gamecube while the splitting of Banjo-Kazooie is between 5th gen n64 and 6th 7th and 8th gen xboxs. That seems like a real unfair advantage so the splitting of those makes complete sense just like the splitting of console vs emulator here.

Connecticut, USA

I would say that if one console only has to deal with a portion of the load times as another, then they should be split. In BK they're split for similar reasons (one can speed up text and one cannot). If the barrier to entry for running the game on hardware is that you need to go buy a specific $100+ console and re-buy the game, just in order to be competitive, that seems like a terrible idea to me.

I know I have it on Gamecube, and watching the runs that are out there the load times are a fraction of what I have to deal with when playing the game. Being forced into a leaderboard to compete against people who have free multiple minutes of timesave would be a deal breaker on my plans to speedrun this game at all.
