Intro & Question :D

Hello everyone!

I've been following speedrunning for about 3 years now, but I've never done any speedrunning, myself. I'm going to be attempting a couple of games from my childhood that have some records I think I may be able to beat (with a lot of work lol)

My question, however, is those games are for Playstation 1, but all the leaderboards (and the search feature under the Games tab) only show PS2. Can I run these on PS1?

Thanks!

Well I believe if a game doesn't exist if that's what you're saying then you have to request it to be added to the games section in order for you and other runners to run it. If I'm getting anything wrong here i'm sorry in advance but I'm new to the site. I haven't had the chance to make any game submissions myself yet but will in the future so I'm not sure how everything might work. :/

If you’re asking if you can run a PS1 game on a PS1, then the answer is yes, although I wouldn’t recommend you do so. Playing PS1 games is usually much faster on a PS2 using Fast Disc speed. I would always recommend doing that if you can.

If you don’t have a PS2 for whatever reason, you can still use a regular PS1, just ask the mods of the game to add the platform (it should be there as PS).

Thanks guys! Those answers make sense. @ShadowFlare7799 I was talking about a PS1 game that already has speedruns here, but they're played on PS2 or PSᵉᵐᵘ so I was wondering if there was a reason.

I don't have either (physically) so I guess I'll focus on sourcing a PS2 instead of a PS1 haha. Thanks @Timmiluvs

You can always check with the community to make sure you play on the fastest version of that’s your concern (I know of some PS1 games that are fastest on the PSTV for example). Just kinda an extra check before you invest money in something like that.

Try to get a 79k model number PS2 if you're going that route. They are most likely the fastest disk speed. Any slim PS2 is better than a fat PS2 though.

The only bad thing to say about the slim ps2 models is that the lasers break easier than on the original ps2 consoles. I know this because I went through a couple slim ps2s during my day and also research on the internet. I also have a history modding older consoles like the ps2.
