Harness the lightning!

I think if we can extract the power from the lightning in the sky it will solve the climate problem. hear me out, most of the climate problem is caused by people burning oil for electricity. I heard somewhere that one lightning bolt has ten years worth of power thats way too much power for devices they would melt or explode, we need to dampen the powah. this might be one way to dampen it, we dig a pit and build a tower of conductive metal, rubber on the outside so it doesnt shock and kill people. imagine this | is metal and this-- is rubber or some other non conductive material it would go like this |--|--|--|--|--so the lightning would jump through the thin rubber.this would still be to much power but its a step forward i guess. tell me if you think this would work.

i had another eureka moment, we could keep on splitting it of like this ][ over and over again. then we would have so low a power that we could store it in a battery. sure it would take up so much space but just one of these lightning towers would do good for humanity if we eradicate global warming then we could focus on racial issues so there isnt another riot breakout across the country. we still have like 7 years to develop this tech i would be fearful for the earth but we are humans god damn it! we have gone to the moon, sent robots across the solar system and in my life time we will land on mars and stay there. i think if we put the best of the best thinkers on it they can do something with this lightning towers idea. im just a high schooler not a scientist

I ... I'm pretty sure that's not how any of this works

...I think your last sentence summarizes things well.

That said, it's nice to see passion on important issues like this! You might want to look into current clean energy solutions (solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, etc.) and maybe some of the science behind electricity to start, Wikipedia and YouTube can help introduce you to these topics.

Another question to consider: this "solution", if possible, wouldn't be generating electricity when there are no storms (much like how solar can't generate electricity if there are storms). How would you solve this?
