Any% with TV Remote discussion

OK, so I'm just gonna go ahead and say that using a TV remote in any% should not be allowed and I literally have no idea why it ever was "allowed" to begin with.

Discuss.

@Gcah2006, my "version" of any% uses in-game features and console features as they were programmed to be used, without modification. This is objectively within the boundaries of speedrunning, and is not debatable.

Isn't FF9 a multi-disc game, though? So banning opening the disc tray would be an arbitrary restriction anyways.

ok, but now back to the topic originally at hand.

Alright, well I suppose since no one is opposed, then the run should be deleted?

Good talk, fellas. :)

Does anyone is against the removal of the pocketstation run? You have until I wake up tomorrow or I'll delete it :)

Someone please answer me this: Was the pocketstation intended to be used alongside a television remote? If yes, the run should stay. If no, the run should go. I honestly don't know the answer, so can someone with some expertise please fill me in.

If that is the case then it would be absurd to ban it.

I found what Elven is referring to. Here is the portion of text you're referring to:

On the bottom of that page, the block of text next to the picture of the Pocketstation ROUGHLY translates to (or at least contains):

"Such as the technique of the remote control...function be switched to the frequency of each manufacturers. If you switch this, many different card from the same remote control"

Granted this is a VERY rough translation. But it is 100% confirmed that it talks about using different frequencies with remotes from different manufacturers and obtaining multiple cards from one remote.

So, unless google trad fucked up big time, can we say that the case is closed (not the thread) and the run stays here?

I think the case is closed. If it's spoken of in the guide, it's intended use.

Locking the thread, if anything else needs to be contributed probably best to do so in the discord.
