Why won't you let the site work without JavaScript?

Turned off adblock, browsed around a bit, saw nothing.

So SRC lets me use an adblocker?

Good.

src loads quite a few things via javascript, have you ever visited any leaderboard or profile? A good portion of the frontpage is also loaded in via javascript after the initial data. Javascript is very much a required part of this site, don't know where you're getting this from exactly. If the site doesn't built itself with javascript disabled, it does use javascript, that's pretty simple. There's no other script language to "deliberately blank the page" should javascript be disabled.

The front page works, but if you try going to a leaderboard with JavaScript disabled it doesn't load any runs (the menu bar also doesn't appear to work, and I imagine other site features don't work either). If you want to be able to use the site properly then enable JavaScript. I really don't see what the problem is.

Javascript is something every browser today supports, I don't see a reason to code for hours just so the 2 users a year can see something without it

Sorry but, why do people browse without Javascript enabled? I don't quite understand.

The only thing I can figure out is for security reasons but no need to be scared of speedrun.com, but disabling can be good for people using data instead I guess. but the number is so small right now I personally don't think the time put in to it would be worth it no matter the reason right now. I only found some of these while looking it up because I diddn't even know you could disable it like most users probably don't. ^_^

Some people turn on noscript without messing with it I guess.

It makes all the sense in the world for this site to make heavy use of JS, to maximize cache and CDN use.

Would be cool if the JavaScript programmers of this site decided to make it compatible with LibreJS making the source code free software, that doesn't require too much work. I don't know if this is the reason OP is disabling JS or he is using noscript, but it would be a cool idea anyways since this site already has a CC BY-NC Copyleft, so why not a Copyleft source code license too?

@Capuno Why did you bump this thread?

United States

Can you point to anywhere in particular where the SRC JS violates the standards?

@ShikenNuggets Sorry for bumping, is there an option to comment in a thread without bumping like "sage" in 4chan? Why is bumping it bad tho, it's maybe old but it was left open to discuss and was not resolved.

@PresJPolk Currently LibreJS blocks all of the JavaScript in the HTML, in the assets/js/vendor-speedruncom.min.js file and a third party google one, so nothing works basically, adding a libre license like GNU GPL would fix this issue for people that care about their freedom online and it only takes 5 minutes.
