Greetings. I am new to running this game and need help clipping out of escape in all dungeons swordless. I am using a us cart and regular controller. I have watched superSKUG's video about this clip (which seems to be the only information about it ) and am having zero luck. I can't tell if it is a cart issue, controller issue, or if the trick is so incredibly frame perfect that I just need to keep practicing. Thank you. Leon.

Without seeing what you are doing, it's hard to say, I recommend joining the discord and sharing videos of your attempts there so we can help. It is a hard clip, and a lot of the inputs are 1-frame inputs, but folks in the discord can offer suggestions for improving.

If I'm gonna run MG any% on emu, is using keyboard allowed? and if it is, would keyboard even be a recommended option for running? Just making sure of things before I look into a mayflash adapter

Keyboard is allowed yes. Take a look at the rules for emulators though which you can see on the category leaderboards. Make sure you choose an emulator which is allowed (snes9x 1.51+ for example) as well as adhere to the rules for mapping buttons and actions (1-1 action per button and 1-1 button per action). It's also useful if you're able to show things like an input display, your config, emulator title, FPS and roll the full credits in runs you submit. You can do most of this at the end of a PB pretty easily.

Alright thanks (: Just curious, what does showing the full credits have to do with proving legitimacy? as long as the other things are present

Hello all,

Trying to get into running this ANY% NMG. I deleted a recording because some of the rules were hard to understand. I saw no S&Q and no Death Warp, and from the rules page it makes it seem like you can't intentionally die anywhere, but someone previous in this forum said it was okay to ID in dungeons. So the question then is, can I ID in dungeons or not?

Thanks!

In NMG categories (except Master Sword) you cannot save and quit. You also cannot emulate a save and quit by intentionally dying: this applies on the overworld and non-dungeon underworld (e.g. caves, houses etc). Bizarrely however you are allowed to save and continue by intentionally dying in dungeons!

Probably in the wrong thread, but here is a clip of doing Armos from the top left. I never see it shown and I find it very easy and consistent. Just trying to help anyone out.

That's pretty much the same as bottom right Armos as far as time goes, and you have to walk further to get into position to set it up. But doesn't appear slower than bottom right, so if it works better for you, that's good enough!

By the way, if you aren't in the ALTTP discord, I suggest you pop in. That's probably the easiest place to share stuff like this and discuss strat variations.

Hello. I've been watching speed running and thoroughly enjoy it and wishing I could play, however I don't even no where to start to get everything set up. I am searching and still a bit unsure. The way I'm reading it is everyone is playing it on the snes which I don't have, but also people seem to be playing it online. Is there a step to step guide on both set ups. Also I have a wii u if that can help me get into it to. If anyone can help that would be great :)

You can either plan on console (either an original SNES, a Wii or Wii U using virtual console, or a SNES Classic), or on emulator. If you play on console, you will need a capture card to get the game play into your computer. For a SNES and Wii, most people use a GV-USB2. You will also need a way to split the signal between your TV and the capture card.

For the Wii U or SNES Classic, you will need an HDMI capture card (I recommend the Elgato HD60). The HDMI capture cards generally act as a passthrough too and will just sit between the console and TV.

You broadcast to Twitch using software like OBS.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/wiki/index has a lot of guides. http://www.screevo.com/2016/09/streaming-setup/ is what I use. The Speedrun.com forums will also have some guides.

Good luck!

Thank you for responding. I can Buy and download the game on the wii U. How would I turn it into randomiser from there. Sorry if the question seems obvious as I'm still trying to get my head round everything. I'm getting there slowly :)

The randomizer takes a ROM and then applies the flags to it. In other words, you need an emulator or a flash cart for the SNES to play it since it’s a ROM. Can’t do it on the Wii U.

Hi Dannyboi,

I recommend you join the Discord severs:

SRL ALTTP Discord - https://discord.gg/SSufwfA ALTTP Randomizer Discord - https://discord.gg/MsWxB5K

You'll find more help on there. Specifically join the randomizer one if you're mainly interested in getting involved with that, plenty of peolpe will be around to help you get setup :)

What on earth does the "blue balls" statistic mean? I played this game for years and have no recollection of any such thing that there are 15 of. I did try looking up "zelda 3 blue balls" and then realized I don't want to be typing that into search engines. The only thing I can guess is the amount of bombs remaining at the end, but I suspect it does not mean that for a number of reasons unnecessary to state. I cannot seem to determine the meaning of "eg/dg/ww" either. I realize they are not allowed, and so I do not risk witnessing them, but I also cannot help being curious!

Blue Balls is an attack from Agahnim (where he sends out a ring of exploding blue balls that can’t be used to damage him). Getting them, especially a lot, is random and bad luck since it wastes time over getting the normal attack that you can use to damage him.

As for what the glitch abbreviations mean, EG is Exploration Glitch and I’m not gonna comment on the others because I can only gusss since I know like nothing about the glitchy side of this game.

EG is Exploration Glitch, which is changing link to a layer he shouldn't be on so as to walk between rooms under the floor. DG is Door Glitches, using items in door frames to confuse the game as to which room you are in, can be used for swapping chest contents or moving into EG. WW is wrong warps, for instance, clipping into an unexpected and unreachable pot to go to an unintended destination. Defeat Ganon, for instance, uses a wrong warp from a Hyrule Castle pot to get straight tot he Ganon fight.

Thank you for replying! I was becoming obsessed thinking about those stupid balls. Are they counted here as a joke? There are other random combat events that can waste a player's time. Why are exploration and door glitches disallowed as "major" glitches? Are they just TOO powerful? Or maybe not able to be exploited in a remotely consistent manner that would be fair to have a competition over?

I'm not sure there's a formal definition for what's the difference between Major and Minor glitches, but a good rule of thumb to think about is this: any glitch that allows you to beat the game WITHOUT any of the obligatory items can be considered a major glitch. So if the glitch allows you to beat the game with no hookshot, cane, flippers, Moon Pearl, hammer, bow, lantern, gloves, ice and fire rods, mirror or a sword upgrade, then it's a major glitch. But then, you're supposed to have silvers for Ganon, but the silverless kill is alowed in NMG so what the hell do I know.

Also, yeah. Blue Balls are a running joke in the community, but counting them let's the other players know how the RNG went for the first Agahnim fight. Players also count Ganon teleports and cycles for the second Agah fight. So it's normal to see run descriptions with info like: "3 BB, 3-Cycle Agah 2, 3 Teleports". It's just shorthand description for the rng stuff in the game.
