Watch a run and try to do what the runner is doing. If you have a question, the forums are always open. Just be sure to check and see if your question hasn't been answered already. There's also a lot of info in here http://www.speedrun.com/re5/guides

Use a control scheme that you are comfortable with. Make sure your run key is on something which is easy to reach and remember since you will literally be running the entire game. Practice reloading using the menu and get into the habit of checking your inventory every time you're on a ladder or in a similar animation.

If you are running NG+, your inventory will be the same every time you run the game, so set up your items in a configuration that feels right. If you are running NG, try to develop a system for organizing the things you pick up so you can use your hotkey to quickly grab what you want. Also, keep your inventory consistent between runs. What I mean is that you should always keep the same items in the same places. This will minimize inventory mistakes over the course of many runs.

Lastly just take a glance over the rules and make sure you're doing everything by the book, and have fun with it!

I would say, glance over the rules, then glance over them again, and maybe a few more times JUST to be certain that your runs are OK. Other than that, what outrage said.

i looked over the rules about 15 times, i hope my runs will be valid.

Rules are staying exactly as they are. We have 4 categories with 4 difficulties each plus IL's, all of which must necessarily have separate rules. On top of that there's lots of sketchy shit like timer manip, segmented vs non-segmented, and patch differences for which our rules need to be absolutely non-ambiguous. I haven't had to reject a single run for rule breaking yet so it seems that everyone who has submitted is more than capable of reading the rules and the 3 or 4 bullet points for their category and follow them.

Timer manipulation does not relate to the RTA timer, it's manipulating the in-game timer by pause buffering, b-door reset spamming, pause spamming, etc. Please refrain from critiquing a rule if you don't even understand the mechanics involved.

Furthermore, I'm not trying to be the bad cop here. We've had some really bad cops in this board before. Some say that those corrupt old cops were altering the posts of people with whom they disagreed. Can you imagine!

Before the change of mods the board was a mess of competing egos and toxic nonsense. Now the quality of runs has improved immensely, we finally have a concrete set of rules which is not open to interpretation, and there is much less pointless forum drama. But you know, sometimes that stench of rotten eggs lingers quite a bit longer than anticipated. So if I have to be the "uptight policeman," so be it, the community will be better because of it.

Then if the rules are good and fine then why was this argument brought up? I can see both sides and this is now done. If you don't like the rules, feel free to not run the game. Be compliant and agree to the rules that were voted/agreed then we have no trouble. If someone feels a rule is 'unfair' or 'pointless' then please make a new thread and a valid reason on why the rule should be revoked. If that were to happen we can look into it. But till then can we not be so salty? Thanks and good luck on the runs!

on another note, what is even happening with the 100% shit?

Deln, I recommend you come up with a mock rule set that is similar to the ones you can find for the other categories as Jcstrickland has said. From there the mods can quickly do some finishing touches that you may not have thought up, fix formatting, etc. Otherwise you will have to wait on the mods to create the ruleset when they too are busy people.
