If I didn't go to the event I wouldn't watch, you get a lot more personality by watching individual streamers.

It's nice to see some of the people I watch get to show off a game for all to see and get a little taste of what it's like, I already do watch individual streamers, ones that got accepted and ones that got rejected, this event doesn't really change that if someone already watches the event plus the streamers themselves, for me it's more of a hey so and so got the spotlight! I see where you're coming from though

Idk I still enjoy it. It is true that many of the same games pop up again....and again....and again.....and again. Like any speedrunner, I'd love to do one of these events myself and I've actually spent a little time wondering if it's worth it to me to learn a Mega Man or a Monkey Ball or a Pokeman game -- games I really have no legitimate interest in -- given that they pop up in GDQ's every damn time.

So far the answer is no. But it's an ongoing question.

It's probably hard to balance as organizers nostalgia goggles and feelings about modern gaming. Everyone remembers playing Mario as a kid, and are more akin to watch multiple runs of that instead of a 6 hour Diablo 3 run despite likely infinitely playing Diablo 3 as an adult. Regardless, it's always a neat time to see and watch some games if you're not familiar with running at all. :)

Mario/zelda/mega man/metroid are all in there for money's sake but there's a decent mashup of other stuff in there and weirdly enough there's an 8 hour I think it was FF run get accepted, all the streamers I watch are gonna be there so I'm happy for them that they got in and some of them finally get accepted
