I have managed to record a run using the OldDark engine, but I cannot get Fraps to record the menu of the game.
So if I recorded and uploaded a video of a completed run and I provided a screenshot of the IGT of the same run, would it get rejected?
No, OBS will not work for capturing Old Dark without using something like DXTory.
For verification purposes I would say that including just the end screen is insufficient for verification purposes as it is way too easy to splice in a fake end screen. We had a certain someone uploading bogus runs with shopped end screens for Thief 2 IL's. So I would say without definitive evidence that it's the same end screen, all in a single recording with mouse movement and everything, I'd reject the run.
As the menu cannot be recorded with the OldDark engine and OBS won't record the game I guess I won't be able to run this game. I guess that depends if DXTory will record the menu. I'll buy it and test it out. What method would you suggest in recording the OldDark engine in a way that could be verifiable on SR.com?
Surely you would be able to compare the video time with the time provided to ensure it was the correct time. But you could only get an indication rather than an exact time I suppose.
After tinkering with some settings in OBS I managed to record the game with no issues by changing the following:

Using monitor capture.

Recording the game at 30FPS (The HUD flickers if you record at 60FPS).

Disabling Windows Aero.
I'm getting some strange HUD flickers when the recording lags, will that make a difference to the runs validity?
Edit: Managed to sort out this in the end. Turns out, you can actually record the game using Nvidia Shadowplay, in full 1080p as well.
What version did you download? Geforce experience shuts down when I stream/record then switch to Thief Gold.
I actually got a new 1060 recently and have the latest version installed. You can actually use OBS if you don't mind some HUD stuttering.
I have a 970 with the latest version. The card makes a difference? I used old and new obs 32/64 bit with plugins. I can't get menu/shop/load screens no matter what I do. Even when geforce experience/shadowplay was streaming Thief Gold, I never saw the menu/load screens/shop.
It shouldn't make that much difference as long as you used the same version of Shadowplay. I'll check what version mine is because I got it about a month ago. You could always try Bandicam. That works on my laptop. Are you using the Steam release of Thief Gold or the CD version?

I'm not using OBS but when I did I tried everything. A plugin got the game to work but I have never had menu/loading screen/shop show up. I would only get game play. I have tried different versions of OBS, with or without plugins, different versions of Thief gold, and geforce experience. I have spent hours trying to figure out what is wrong. OBS at least doesn't drop the recording (just shows black screen) when I hit the loading menus etc. Geforce experience will only stream when I hit alt 9 during game and will instantly cut off when I hit any load screen. The only thing I can think of would be what patch you used to make Thief Gold work. I used ddfix and some random widescreen one but still no menus.
I am using the Steam version with ddfix installed. It's strange that it won't display them at all. What OS are you running? I just could not get it to display on my Windows 8.1 or 10 laptops no matter what I tried... There certainly needs a rule change on this, it is too difficult to record this game without problems on modern hardware. It's killing the leaderboard.
windows 7. I'm on desktop. I might buy steam version.where did you get the ddfix?
ddfix comes with the Steam version. It might not change much as I get the same result with the unpatched CD version on my Windows 7 PC.
