Suggestions for categories

Aside from any%, I think "intended order" would be a fun category. Meaning:

  • you have to go through the water mountain first (no shortcut)
  • then to the city, down to the purple crystal
  • get the frogs in this order: giant, lava, invisible, tiny, upside down
  • do the bird level to get to the tiny frog (not sure about this though) This also means you don't get to use any molehills you don't deserve.

Alternatively, "detour": get all the frogs without visiting the crystal. This makes some molehills unavailable, but the route will mostly be the same as in any%.

For a good 99% category, I suggest "visit the statue of Tokity". You need all the frogs AND all the wings to be able to reach it. But you don't need to fill the TokiDex (which would just be a chore).

Welp ... can count out All achievements category, least for me. Found the missing area I was missing. And it's not one that I missed, it just doesn't register to the secret area percentage for the achievement. This is the ONLY spot, that replays the secret area chime over and over when you walk over the trigger spot for it ( patch of grass).

Finally found this spot searching everywhere on my 99% file, and tested it on a fresh game start on any% file. Can skip to the 1 minute mark to see. Video just shows me getting to this area, and showing my percentage before doing this section.

Vulajin if you're ever bored and free time, can you test this on switch, see your percentage before and after you get to this spot

Could Blindfolded Category be a thing?

United States

Don't really see them being competitive, and those can be tricky to actually prove. Would love to see one done, tho.

It might be interesting to have ILs where the player's goal is to begin at the start and rush to collect one of the five frogs. Naturally, there would be five categories, one for each frog. The problem we run into is that it might be faster to do multiple frogs in order to access the molehills early. In that case, it should be decided if molehills should be allowed at all.

Saw this awhile ago, just didn't really know how to respond. ILs wouldn't be a bad thing, and don't have to be specifically for frogs, but that does seem interesting. Would have to limit each frog to NOT visiting the crystal before the intended frog is rescued. Could get creative with other objectives to speedrun. The main issue, is lack of activity in the game. Setting all that up for maybe 2 runners to participate isn't ideal. Then there's differences in consoles to consider and either pile em all together or set up all separate IL Boards. I'm all for it, it's just the fact this game isn't heavily active and doesn't get the credit or attention it deserves :(

@waarschijn , not sure if anyone checks here, but was looking at the "Detour" notes you made in the original post here. I like the idea of Intended btw (not so much going to the red crystal first lol ) but doing intended order seems fun. I went to check your Detour% run and it looks like Any%, unless that was a complete different idea? Both being labeled "Detour%" through me off (both the idea and leaderboard run).

got a response from Devs :) ... https://i.gyazo.com/9814106de9e569fbedee4185b5d9df25.png

Hi @hfcwesker, I read the posts but I don't play the game anymore. I still have to watch your 99% runs from a few months ago.

The idea was to lengthen the any% run in a way that doesn't feel too fake/arbitrary. :p

In Detour, you don't have access to some of the molehills (the ones that are unlocked by visiting the Crystal). That means you get to do more puzzles. Also, on PC, you can only teleport from checkpoints, so you have to do extra work to get out of the Lava Frog area. On Switch, this is not an issue.

As for Intended: it's the way most casual players experience the game, so it's another not-completely-fake way to make the game longer, without going for 100% completion.

I'm actually routing All Achievements on switch, just waiting for the one section to hopefully get patched by devs. My recent 99% PB is pretty nice, i dont think it can get below 1:50 very doubtful. Now, honestly, the Tokidex% run is worth watching, under ILs. I REALLY like the route I pulled off for it.

I just bought the PC version last night and got all achievements. It it different and has slow down parts, like teleporting by a checkpoint, etc. Also I had to get used to electro bugs to explode before walking past. If you splash and go right to them theyre still electrified lol. One way out of upside-down frog i found was "reset level" and fall down right to the checkpoint then eagle out. Same for tiny frog, just reset level and checkpoint is right at the entrance to that area for quick eagle ... oh ya, and resetting level is slow too lol

And, cool, I'll end up doing Intendend% ( + red crystal first :( ) lol. I'm sad youre retired, and Vulajin is on the metroid Dread grind, been lurking his streams here and there. I'll keep it alive for y'all :D

So, I'll take feedback on this, but I plan on changing (99% no Tokidex) to just 99% ... mostly hundo speedruns are about item collection. Like Metroid Prime games, they dont require 100% scans for 100% category completion, just obtainable items as most other games do. Plus, it's kinda annoying having to explain what "No Tokidex" means to those unfamiliar, and looks tacky in the title/category.

Tokidex is a side quest, Achievement, which I do plan on making separate Achievement categories for some of them that seem like interesting, chilled runs... except maybe "All Achievements" I been routing. :P

An actual item completion 100% would include the golden Wings (plus dropping off tokens on the way to Deposits) in the 100% category since it becomes an obtainable item.

This would allow a separate category for just 99% and 100%; Plus different achievement categories for ILs, or Misc.

Like I said this change makes sense just wanted to give a heads up and if anyone has other opinions on the subject, im listening.
