Not only that, if someone has a mark next to their name it can create some drama as we've previously seen. If someone is in 2nd place and doesn't use S+Q while someone is in 1st place and does use S+Q and the margin is 11 seconds, there will be discrepancy. If this saved MINUTES and broke the game, then maybe. But this is not the case. Just my opinion, others can voice theirs.
Yea adding a colum/putting a [S+Q] indicator seems very drastic just for a strat, which essentially that's all S+Q is, a strat. A majority of the community that posted here seems to be ok with it being unbanned, no marks or no new colums.
I know that I will also be in the minority here but I don't think it's worth the time and effort to change. If this is how it's been for years, why are we stressing over these nine seconds now? I personally just don't see why this is such a huge issue right now. Don't think I'm trying to be a jerk or anything, because that's not it at all. I'm just noticing that the LM community seems to be creating more waves than probably necessary. My two cents at least :)
Don't confuse drama with a discussion. It's just an old rule that had to be discussed, it's not a "huge issue".
You're right, perhaps my post was a little melodramatic. I see that this is a discussion. And honestly, I can see why it could be allowed. It doesn't break any game functions so I wouldn't fret for a second if it was allowed. I just think it should stay banned. Just my personal opinion!
@KingRedEagle Your opinion is cool, but just know that there really won't be "time and effort" involved. After tonight, it will either be allowed or it won't. We have all discussed and think this is a fair process, with a fair deadline. There won't be anything beyond this unless people decide to spark up their own drama. But I have a strong feeling that that won't happen considering the resounding feeling on the issue.
Just got around to watching that timing highlight, and yeah, it's not really an accurate timing since it doesn't include how when you save warp you need to pick up fire again on the way to Van Gore, so it is slightly slower than that would indicate. This isn't really a point for or against allowing it, it's just something worth noting for people not really aware on how it works.
Editing for clarification: I guess I shouldn't say you have to pick up fire again, technically you do have the option not to, but if you skip it you lose time later from missing out on flashlight and vacuum skips, as well as making the last triple on Van Gore a lot more difficult to do.
I have said this multiple times outside of the forum and I think it is worth noting in here as well. Both sides have fair arguments because it really just depends on whether or not you feel that quitting the game and having a sort of "outside the actual gameplay" thing is considered OK. If you feel it is not OK to be able to leave the file and go back in then S&Q is not OK (or you just rather have the rule not change). If you feel that RTA should be the way to go then that makes S&Q OK. Everyone's argument of "It does not break the game so S&Q should be unbanned" is not a strong argument. We all know that the developers put in a QUIT option into the game with the intent that people would quit the game and then later on re-enter the file. Its just a matter of opinion on RTA vs 1 game session RTA really.
I am completly against allowing S&Q in the run. The game has been ran for 5+ years and we have never done it. We talked about it back in the day but just ignored it. There really isn't much point to changing something like this that if we really wanted to do it we would done it long ass time ago. Thats all i'm gonna say on the matter

R-pumping was never done at one point and now look at us. We do it now cuz it saves time and r-pumping is a WAYY bigger impact on the run than this. The point of speedrunning is to seek out times saves, and make the run shorter, not hold onto useless traditions and methods that keep the run from being as fast as it can be. And maybe it woulda been done a long-ass time ago if this community didn't have the bad habit of ignoring stuff.

After the discussion, it seems as if the vast majority of the community that posted in here wants the ban lifted from S+Q in Luigi's Mansion runs. There was slight opposition, but realistically I'd say at least 80-90% of people were for lifting the ban. That being said, unless something was overlooked or miscalculated, I believe the ban from here on out is no longer in effect as discussed. Enjoy your save warping everyone.

This was the most pleasant way I think we've ever dealt with an issue in the Luigi's Mansion community and I'd like to continue doing things like this as well. I trust the judgment of the community for this game, and I for one will be happy with any decision is made, so long as all voices are heard. :)
lol i don't really run this game anymore anyway and i know the deadline's over but in case anybody still wants the opinion of another old school runner, I don't really care whether or not save warping is in effect, i only think it'd be very inconsistent, if you could pull it off with the boo rng in your favor, fine. I don't think there should be seperate categories, and that save warping is something you either do or don't do in any% no OOB, those are my thoughts on it.
