Hi. I started practicing this game the last couple of weeks. I only have a phone; so no computer videos. My best time is 2:38 partially due to a controller that can't press start well and right fuzzes out every once and awhile.

I want to ask if someone can give me the ins and outs of the resistance glitch (to make sure I'm doing it right.) Also want to know best tactics for tree boss and of course any guidance on a more consistent Pazuzu's tower.

Thank you <3

I am also in the early stages of learning this game (haven’t done a full run yet). I second these questions!

Hello,

I started running about a month or so ago. I was having issues with the resistance glitch as well. There is not a whole lot of information out there since this isn't a popular game. I followed the tutorial properly, but it just wouldn't work. I then tried it on emulator, and it worked! I believe the issue is that my cartridge was the wrong version, possibly v1.0, whereas the ROM I used was v1.1. I have an FXPAK Pro, so I run it on a SNES console, and it works.

JustTen's tutorial at 6:50 explains the steps to set it up properly. Simply put 1) Have a save file with endgame Phoebe as your partner. 2) Load that file 3) Soft reset console 4) Start new game 5) Ensure not to save AT ANY POINT in the game. The game remembers the resistances of the partner of the last save file used, so if you save, the resistances will reset. If it does not work on your console, try it on an emulator to check if it's your cartridge version that's the problem.

Tree boss is Gidrah, the chimera, I am assuming. JustTen's video at 1:51:45 explains pretty well. Basically, both Ben and Kaeli spam Aero, then heal and cure when necessary. Try to get past first stage quickly as he doesn't hit as hard when one of the heads is gone.

Pazuzu's Tower is complicated and where he goes is pure RNG. All you can do for consistency is memorize the route and what to do based on which floor. For practice, just run the tower as if he is the worst and went to 2F. Again, you can use JustTen's vid to get a visual guide and just keep running the tower over and over. Once you memorize the tower, it becomes a matter of cycling the RNG each new run.

If you have more specific questions, feel free to ask and I will try to answer them. I definitely had my own problems with smaller things not covered by tutorials.

Since I am currently de-rusting Mystic Quest, I just wanted to pop in here and give my story. I also am in possession of an FFMQ cart where the resistance glitch does not work.

Fortunately I have a second cart on hand where the resistance glitch does work. Both of these carts appear to be the version where you can press Start+Select in the menu and get a readout of your SNES chip data.

Very interesting as both copies have a ROM chip with "SNS-MQ-0" printed on them. I'm not familiar enough to know if this means both are v 1.0 carts, but I assume this is the case. The MOSEL chip below the ROM chip has a slightly different value printed on each cart, but this may just be manufacturer's serial numbers. Perhaps one of these carts is just cursed.

I just started learning the speedrun and was preparing to start full runs only to find out my cartridge also doesn't seem to work properly with the resistance glitch. I'm running this on actual hardware and I'm not in a position to hunt down an everdrive. Did anyone ever figure out a way to identify a cart that will work with the glitch?

I don't think there's an easy way without actually using the cart. I don't know how to do it but I've seen Fumo bring up a debug screen that I guess can show you the version.

I suggest asking Fumo about it in the Discord because they know way more than I do about it.

Hey ZeroCounts, did you get an answer? I didn't know you were getting into this, but if you need help hit me up.

Hey, Seige! Consensus seems to be that you don’t really know until you test out the glitch - which is unfortunate. Thankfully, one of my Twitch viewers tested the glitch on their own personal cart and graciously sent it to me. I should be starting runs next week!
