Turbo For Stairskating in DS Category | Yes/No

But what would the point be for a new category? I cant stairskate like pessimism (hope he doesnt read that i gave him a compliment) but that doesnt mean i couldnt enjoy this run and get a nice PB. in the end most runners run for a personal best. Only the very few are dedicated to grind and practice games for hours and hours to get that top ranking/WR and thus the opinion of those runners should be respected above all.

Lets be honest adding mods/turbo or whatever else that there is out there is silly. You run the game and only the game and thus there should be no need for anything else. while this covers more then just the turbo for this game people just need to realize its part of this run and stop comparing themselves with top runners. Play it yourself, try your hardest and get those sweet pb's.

Tbh if someone is disabled or has trouble with cramping or whatever i think they need to understand they'll always be at a huge disadvantage and probably never get a WR.

Here's a personal example..

i bought a Japanese GameCube to run Biohazard 2 but during the run my hand cramps up and i physically cannot do more than one run at a time, So i stopped running it and sold the console.

The point i'm trying to make is although it sucks that a small number of people are left behind that doesn't mean a new category should to be created to make it easier for them, they need to accept the fact they're at a disadvantage and either stop running the game as it's clearly not doing them any favors for long term health or have fun with the game and go as fast as they can without putting strain on themselves.

Anyone with hand problems should consider a PS4 controller though and remap to the analog stick for stair skating because that is a damn good alternative, allowing people to use turbo isn't.

Touching on StevenMaytes last point, the remap of the analog stick is already an alternative to mashing and is allowed for the very reason of RSI. If you can't mash or don't want to mash then you should just run the DS category. No brainer for me

Yeah Moe. We are pointing fingers and laughing at people with disabilities. Is that a joke? We are totally not bringing valid responses and trying to keep this games integrity. Get a grip.

None of you seem to acknowledge the fact that doorskip already helps people who can’t mash.

I would also like to take the time to apologize if I've come off as aggressive or insensitive in this thread. That's definitely not my intention. The thing is I give a shit about this game.

The issue is, wiggling your stick is a game mechanic that is already a part of the base game and is required within the speedrun itself. So with that in mind, why is it so hard for people to remap their controller to the analogue stick so they can stair skate that way instead? Is it simply misinformation about the rules?

And also to note, you can get more than a top 10 time on the DS category without doing any stair skating at all, so people who are offput by the button mashing aspect are definitely just coming across as misinformed on this subject. Maybe instead of spreading misconceptions about the run, we should instead try helping 'viewers' who seem put off by it, informing them of the rules involved with DS category.

This is my final statement on the topic. I'm not against a turbo category in category extensions, but that's only if people are absolutely certain they don't want to try the remapping control pad method.

Also being against turbo isn't being against people with disabilities learning the game, I'm 100% certain anybody can learn this game as long as they educate themselves about the route beforehand.

I should've put a sticky on the thread Zeroth had while I was still moderating here, but I'll go ahead and link it. Would be great if it could get a sticky so everyone who visits the forums can see. I did my best to fix up the rules and it's stated that remapping is allowed with a limit of one button per input. It's just that the stairskate remap technique didn't venture far outside of that thread after doorskip got added apparently lol.

Stairskate method using analog by Zeroth along with the past voting for it https://www.speedrun.com/remake_hd/thread/v2thw

Also, this is an old post by sshplur with stair skate tests he did using turbo on an arcade stick. https://www.speedrun.com/remake_hd/thread/zcau1

The time loss is obvious, but it's not as drastic as other areas of the game. You can get by with mediocre stair skating and put up solid times.

As far as discussion goes, I say no to allowing turbo even for just DS being that the remapping is allowed and that in itself provides a less intense alternative to stairskating and it could also affect things outside of stairskating as mentioned before like menuing and quickshots even (again, probably). There's no doubt that it is indeed timeloss for unoptimal stairskating, but thats any aspect of the game, If not done well, you will lose time for it. I understand injuries can prevent people from being able to do it well, I understand making it more accesible to run, but it's the baggage that comes with the game and you have to expect it.

I hope to not come off elitist or non welcoming. It's a part of the game that can be practiced like any other part. If you physically cannot do it to whatever extent you deem neccesary , there's other aspects of the run you can improve on, you will lose that time surely, but won't be the end all be all of the game. I guess what I'm trying to convey is that it's tough trying to be inclusive for everyone without sacrificing something in turn for it. So yeah I guess the sacrifice here would be "integrity."

Thank you everyone for taking the time to voice your opinions and make a vote.

Tallying it all up, most are in a general agreement that it should stay as we currently have it. So it stays.

Thanks again all. Happy running!
