So I have a very, VERY difficult time doing tricks like screen scrolling and ladder clips (since they're frame perfect). Keyboards have quicker travel times, so would we be allowed to use a keyboard for these tricks, and use a controller for the rest of the run, or would this be an unfair advantage and be banned? (No, this wouldn't be using extra key bindings, it would just be using the keypad for certain glitches and using the normal controller for the rest of the game)
I don't think it should be allowed to have two different inputs for the same button in the run, no. One or the other.
In that case, how do you hold a direction on the D-pad for one frame? I have a lot of troubles doing it, and can't seem to get it. Maybe it's my controller?
EggsBagel, Here is a scrolling, clipping tutorial I did a while back. I currently use the "flick" method (with my right pointer finger) now for scrolling 1-frame movements because it's quicker and more consistent for the controller I use. You will have to play around and figure out what works best for you (everyone does scrolls a little differently).
Right index finger tap master race.
But yeah, you’re not so much holding the dpad for 1 frame, you’re tapping it quickly so that it gives the 1 frame turn. It’s not as hard as it may seem, with a little practice it becomes very muscle memory as you learn the motion and pressure to apply to the dpad.
I use my left thumb to slide off the dpad (down), or my right thumb to slide off (right) accordingly. I know everyone does it slightly differently, using thumbs or fingers, etc. Find what works for you and go with that. Trying to actually "press" it for 1 frame as you would normally manipulate a dpad is probably the hardest. You wanna do taps or slide-offs for sure.
Oh and for the record, I would think using a keyboard for 1 frame taps would be harder than a controller, but I could be wrong.
So I found out that my d-pad was actually really stiff, making it hard to do a one frame slide off, so I switched to a ps3 controller with a less stiff d-pad, and now I can slide my thumb off the d-pad and do screen scrolls/ladder clips very easily. Thanks for the help!
Glad to hear! Yeah, I hate stiff d-pads for this game. I'm having controller issues at the moment and I need to find new ones.
I use my right thumb to flick. I also use my right thumb to set up scrolls if i needed to move right, and my left if I need to move left
I vastly prefer stiff dpads, especially for those one frame taps. But whatever's more comfortable for the runner is what matters.
With the release of the new Nintendo "Game & Watch" which includes an official emulation port of the NES and Famicom "The Legend of Zelda" these versions are allowed for speedrunning purposes, because as far as we can tell, they play exactly the same as the NES versions (subject to change if other d
