would it be possible for you to add 50 lines, 1000 lines, maybe even 10 lines? just a thought.

If people would like to run those categories, we could add them. Sure. If there's a run anyone has done that you would like tracked post it up here in the forums so we can add that category, because as of right now there's no runs submitted for the currently posted categories. I'd like to avoid bloating the category count of a game with no runs.

I've updated the categories to match what we currently have on Tetris NES as I thought that would be a good start point for the game.

i was wondering if a kind of smaller category could be added, 10 lines, that would be fun to run

I have a number of suggestions on what categories I think could look like.

  1. There may be categories with mouse controls. Considering how much of a game changer it is, I think it's fair to separate runs using it, with runs using key controls by making them subcategories.
  2. There may be categories with no holding, where you cannot use the hold button at any point during the run.
  3. I think that a 10 lines category is pointless, and way too short to feel good to speedrun. I would suggest a more standard spread of 100 lines being the main category, 40 lines being a sprint category and 250 being a marathon category.
  4. I do not see the point of having a level 1 start separate category for 100 lines, considering the existence of hard dropping in this game. And I do not understand why there is no such distinction for 300K, since itd oes affect the gameplay, I think it might be worth while to include it, and delete the dupe category of 100 lines level 1 start.

I do have proof of concepts for all of the potential categories I mentioned. Though I will not submit them to the leaderboards yet until the changes I proposed will be either implemented or shut down.

  1. 300K with mouse WR (lv 20 start)
  2. 100 lines with mouse no holding WR
  3. 250 lines with mouse

1: I feel like mouse control is one of the unique features of web tetris. We could split control categories, sure, but then you might as well be running a different tetris game. I'm open to polling runner opinion on this one. Let me know what you guys think.

2: Nohold is a good category. We can add it.

3: I tend to agree that 10 lines is too short a category. I added it because several people requested it, and if enough people want to run a category I would be remiss to not add it as a tracking option. If it turns out to be unpopular I have no issue removing it for something a little longer.

4: Level 1 start is a holdover from NES Tetris. When web tetris was added we simply used NES Tetris categories as a baseline to see what people enjoyed running. I agree harddrop obsoletes level 1 start as a separate category. That category will likely be merged.

So as far as I understand the setup might look something like the following:

10 lines 40 lines 100 lines 250 lines 300K 300K level 1 start 100 lines no hold

Depending on the popularity of the categories some would be removed, and a keyboard/mouse subcategories for every cat can be decided by a community opinion/vote of some sort. I like the idea of that. Wondering what others's input is about this.

Looks good tbh ^^

mouse and keyboard should be a variable since players have a preference on what they use for tetris

OK, I've just applied all the changes I proposed to the leaderboards. But still, if anyone thinks that some of those aren't warranted or necesarry, do not hesitate to mention that. Those are still up for debate.

Also: @MusicLovin I think separating the two options is a good idea, but doing it in subcategories would be more fitting. I am sure that using the mouse brings better results, so this way the keyboard players wouldn't be disadvantaged.

Nice timing

I really like no hold and I think that one more category of it could be fun. 300K points level 1 start no hold. Would any of you be interested in trying it? I won't add it if I would be the only one to run it.

Renovation complete, important query and a contest!

Today the anniversarial leaderboard renovation has been concluded. I hope you all will see its current state as an improvement. I certainly do, though I do need to mention that a part of it does vex me a tiny bit.

In the community vote we both agreed to condense all categories into subcategories
