I recently got the game again after many years of last playing it, and everything works well, except one thing. The lilypad minigame (left gate in the crystal level) is broken. If I click anywhere during the minigame, the slingshot doesn't shoot but returns to relaxed position, the cursor is stuck where I clicked, and the game doesn't respond to any more clicks. The game works but won't let me do anything. The only thing I can do at this point is close the game via Task Manager. I play on Windows 10. I decided to see if the same thing happens with Windows XP compatibility. The game ignored my existing profile for some unknown reason, so I created a new one, played through the beginning and got to the minigame again. Same result. I never ran into this when I played the game before (on actual Windows XP), so it's super weird.
It may be a bizarre compatibility issue, though the rest of the game works fine (e.g. the early puzzle minigame doesn't give a softlock upon clicking). Theoretically my PC should be strong enough to run Windows XP in a VM, IDK when I may try it though. But, out of curiosity, would a Windows emulation within newer Windows count as an emulated PC run or normal?

I managed to get the game working in Windows XP emulated via VirtualBox. The framerate is consistently "meh" (feels like 15 FPS) but the speed appears to be correct. I got to this minigame and played it with no issues. I also realized that before I attempted the minigame on Windows 10 the game skipped the cutscene right before it, on XP it played. I'm not entirely sure if I want to run the game, but, theoretically, would you allow running it in emulated old Windows (due to an unavoidable sotflock on newer Windows)?
Hi, I created an account just to reply to this forum haha. I recently played the game as well and I got stuck because of the problem with the lilypad minigame. It's the last minigame I need to accomplish before reaching the locked area. Is there no way to skip or fix the bug in a newer Windows? I don't have other PCs that have older versions and I am DYING to finish the game haha. Please send help, thanks!

Yes, the only version of the game available for PC is hella broken, and only functions on a virtual machine. However, the PS2 version is essentially the same and works very well on a simple ps2 emulator. I'd recommend that instead!
After some search online i found the only way to get the lily pad mini game to work is to have the game running at an fps of less than 220. The guy in the forum said he ran it at 170 through an FPS limiting software. That has worked really well for me.
