Question Regarding Transluscent Chatboxes
Esperanto

Hello. I have lots of OBS questions, but I've sort of prioritized my questions for more important things first. You can probably guess what the question will be.

I can successfully put the chatbox of Twitch in feed with Window Capture, albeit it's sort of difficult to work with. For example, I can't really zoom in on the text without changing the zoom settings on Chrome in general. But since I do not have two screens to work with at the moment, I can't actually see the chatbox above my game screen in the same I can with my timer. I've noticed some sort streams that have translucent chat boxes. I don't know if they actually see them over their own game or own a separate screen. So, I'm curious how that works. Is that a plugin in OBS that does this? I'm not tech savvy so I wouldn't know, but it seems like the API or whatever could easily been grabbed with a plugin.

Any fingers pointed in the right direction regarding these things would be useful indeed. I thank anyone who might be able to give me some advice on this matter.

I'm not 100% sure but I think a lot of people use a widget from some other site/program to show chat messages without directly capturing your twitch chat from the website.

For example, I know streamlabs has a widget for twitch chat which might be what your referring to - it shows the messages without a background and to can put that widget on your stream in OBS (streamlabs has guides).

I'm not 100% sure this is what you're looking for or if the streamlabs widget behaves exactly that way because I don't use streamlabs or any widgets like that. I'd recommend checking it out though to see if it is what you're looking for. Otherwise you can try to find the color of the twitch chat background and chroma key that color out of the screen capture of chat to make it transparent.

Thanks, I will look into it. And chroma key is a really good idea if that doesn't work. I will check out streamlabs though. Thanks!

Just as a side note, in case anyone comes across this, I was able to perform this function with a KapChat by NightDev. Works like a charm really. Additionally, I was able to use Chroma Key in order to make my WSplit timer translucent as well on the stream. I'll probable update the timer at some point to one that has the function built in (because I need a more detailed timer anyway) but it definitely works for all intents and purposes.

If you're looking for a more detailed timer, use LiveSplit. It has so many features and customizations that I couldn't list them all. You can mess with it and setup a layout that works for you/is unique to you.

Alright, excellent. I will check that out.

Thanks for the LiveSplit recommendation. LiveSplit really does have the best customization and functionality. I had to play with the colors a little bit to get all good, but the chormokey works well on the pure black background. If anyone else is going for a transluscent timer on their feed, I'd highly recommend LiveSplit if it isn't already being used. Thanks again, Timm, for the recommendation.
