Gear Swap

Hi there!

I'm just starting to speedrun DS3. This is my first speedrun and i won't be going for any WR or anything like that but just a run to challenge my self.

Now i have watched a lot of Distortion and other speed runners ... A LOT ...

And they swap gear while running stupidly fast! How? i understand walking and swapping. Just go in to the menu when you keep your left stick forward (i use X-box controller on my computer).

But how do you run and swap as they do? Do they use another controller that makes it possible? Do they swap the button for back in menus or for sprint so they can keep that pressed?

Last question, How do they trigger splits? is there an auto splitter or something that will trigger the split as soon as a boss dies or a fire is lit or anything or do they actually press it them selves? Couldn't you connect a split to the achievement for that boss and make it automatic because each boss has their own achieve?

Any input can help thanks just trying to make this speedrun as pleasant as possible. Thanks!

For the sprinting and menuing at the same time, I don't know, I never noticed before. You should ask in a runner's stream. For the splits, the runner split themselves hitting a hotkey. There is an loadremover that stops the timer when the game is loading (in case you were wondering why their timer stopped).

You have to use a claw grip for the controller to do the menuing whilst running.

Thanks guys! I got the timer to stop that is not a prob just wondered how they did the splits, i guess when i do the speedruns i just get stressed so much, ooh i have to split ... oooh i have to sit at bonfire, equip that and that and not get hurt and keep running and and and and xD

I just need to take it slow! But thanks!

As for the claw grip, can you release sprint button while you enter menu and you stay sprinting? Because I use B for sprinting and B for going back in menu, wouldn't sprinting stop if i release B to go back?

Don't think they do, or they just do it so fast it's not noticeable :P

Game Audio Requirement

Starting today, new submissions to the leaderboards require the game sound to be audible. Game music is excluded from this requirement.

This change shouldn't have a noticeable impact on submissions and common practice. However, we felt it is important to define this requirement in the ruleset.
