Hello everyone! I am Baffan, I speedrun Tales of Symphonia, and mayybe you saw my run at ESA 2014.

If you are interested in Tales of Symphonia speedruns and you want to ask questions, but you think it's not big enough to create a whole new thread, feel free to ask your questions here!

We are a lot of runners being active: Dabomstew, GreenMittenz, Black Razgriz, Jaymota16, FreeYourSoul, S18alg, LeGrandGrand and me.

We all switched to NG since NG+ is now very optimized. But we can help you for both NG and NG+! We already posted links in the Guides section, feel free to use them!

hello ! My friends call me Rocher you may do so ! I am interested in doing a ToS speedrun (i prefer a NG any%). I actually have the game but on a PAL version. I know i should do it on a NTSC-U or NTSC-J but i dont have the consoles yet. Do you have any advices or links for videos i can refer to ? I 'm actuall looking for example (if you ave link for some recorded runs). I 'm trying to first reproduce a run completely before trying to find new routes ( i still have to understand the dephts of the game) I'm already referring to the guide section but i wanted to introduce myself ! see you !

First of all, I see that you are french. A lot of us are french actually, so if you have further questions after my reply, PM me on Twitch in french if it's easier for you. ^^

My answers are for anybody else that would ask the same questions

About the region of the game. The problem is that absolutely everybody plays on NTSC-U because of how convenient it is. All the french guys use a Freeloader with their Gamecube or Wii to be able to play NTSC games. Feel free to do the same when you can. The leaderboards only include NTSC-U because the game is already long enough. Adding times that are 20% longer for games that are hours long would be a nonsense...

About the advice on the runs, routes, etc. I can only recommend you to do what you probably already did. Which is to watch the JayMota16 or Dabomstew runs on the leaderboards, and tu study them. Watch the runs entirely. Yes, entirely. If you want to know what I did, I watched and studied 2 hours of run per day for 4 days. And read the Hub that is on the Guides section, there are a lot of documents we did, where you can learn everything related to NG and learn what are our actual strats and techs. Yes, it's gotta be long. It took me 3 weeks to study the theory before going on the practicing. It's because ToS is a hours long run, learning it wil be long too.

Remember that we are very active in NG ang NG+ for more than 2 years, and everything is pretty elaborated now. But trying to find new routes and ideas could still happen, and it will require a lot of dedication from you. Never forget that we gave to everybody all the keys to be able to do the same as we do. Absolutely everything or nearly is on the guides/routes, and is watchable in the videos. Good luck, you can do it with dedication!
