New variable and rules updates

Update June 2020: Please see the most recent post in this thread for most up-to-date information. This post is outdated.

New game rules:

Emulator is hidden by default due to running the game faster than any legitimate hardware. For emulator submissions, please put emulator version (and core version, if applicable) in description.

SCPH-75000 model and higher PS2s run the game significantly faster than other platforms. Please mark Yes on the SCPH-75K+? variable when submitting on these consoles.

There are more subtle differences between all of the disc-based platforms. For PS1 and PS2 console runs, put the model number of your console in the description (e.g. SCPH-9001, SCPH-30001, SCPH-79001, etc.) so we can keep track of the differences in speed between various console revisions.

It is recommended to note in the description if Fast Disc Speed is used.

New category rule additions:

  • Include console model number in description if submitting on PS1 or PS2 (e.g. SCPH-30001).
  • If playing on SCPH-75000 model number or higher PS2 console, mark Yes for SCPH-75K? For other platforms, mark No.

We discovered SCPH-75000 and higher PS2 consoles run the game dramatically faster, so we added a variable for that. Just mark Yes if you have one of those consoles, No for everything else. Emulator is faster still, and remains hidden by default.

Emulator is unhidden. Mednafen PSX is the only allowed emulator. Please document version number in the submission description.

SCPH-75000 PS2s or higher with Fast Disc Speed appear to be the fastest platform - faster than Mednafen PSX. Note that PSTV with Fast Disc Speed has not been tested as of yet. SCPH-700XX and lower PS2s with Fast Disc Speed are very similar in performance to PS1, but the addition of Fast Disc Speed may make PS2s faster than PS1s where loads are involved.

Per community decision, the boards have been split into 3 speed classes corresponding with how the game runs on various platforms. Exact parity is still impossible across platforms, but the new categories effectively cluster most-comparable runs as of current understanding. Please check the rules for additional information.

As the faster platforms now have their own sub-category, the 75K+ variable has been removed.
