Why is Wii VC banned for Stage RTA?

Ok I guess it’s good how it is then

Mexico

Yeah I want to take VC seriously cause I really don’t want to drop money on a n64

Mexico

I talked to GothicLogic about this and said...”The lb for them is already inactive and adding multiple subsections to an already dead lb isn't worth it sorry”

Portugal

So basicly people who dont have a n64 will never be able to run IL and single stars.

@LUMLTPM like i said a while ago on the other post, you don't need to submit to the leaderboards in order to run stage RTAs or single stars. there is nothing at all stopping you from getting usamune/a timer code and running any star/stage you want.

As a Mupen user, I wonder how you wouldn't be able to tell from my live input window, as well as the format of the numbers in the bottom line of the program, whether a run would be live or a playback of a .m64. I guess you can't tell whether I used memory watch, but I don't think there's much of a point in using that at a competitive level anyway - aside from… knowing what RNG you got in HMC100?

@IwerSonsch Umm,excuse me,but i think you're writing this in the wrong place!

@dumpdome64 well, what about the 3 spliced runs of 16 stars? the runners got called out cheating, the first two may have done it a lot of years ago and the third one may have been a prankster but still, the first two were cheating seriously. and by this,i'm pretty sure there are some other runners (not on top runners of this game) that they're cheating on full game leaderboards and we don't know about it.

wait, that runs were spliced and didn't used cheats! sorry, that i said something that doesn't count!

there's an actual former wr which was spliced that i already mentioned! did you watch Apollo Legend's video "10 speedrunners who were caught cheating" it's the 16 star spliced (former) wr of "holymoly".

I know, but what if somebody (not a top runner) will actually cheat to get the wr and not a "PB"?

I meant on vc or emulator! isn't what i said on-topic? Kappa

And he pointed out that, while nobody is going to cheat a WR on N64 anytime soon, there's a possibility that a future WR in the less optimized VC and Emulator categories might be by someone who might be in danger of making the mistake of cheating

Whereas I, on the last page, responded to a post that said you can't trust PJ64 because it could be Mupen; by pointing out that afaik there are ways to tell apart live RTA on Mupen, a TAS playback on Mupen, and a live performance with Memory watch at least if a complete screen recording is provided, which makes me confused on why Mupen is actually banned

@IwerSonsch exactly! and what if a lot of people will do the same after this cheated run comes around? would vc be banned in full game runs as well?

Yeah i'm pretty sure any console could be cheated at any time

Australia

If literally anyone does anything against the rules that's for the mods to think about; not anyone else. I feel like derailing a forum thread with random "what if" scenarios just frustrates people.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with playing on VC or Emulator but that's a minority group in the scene as a whole which is going against the grain and because of that you shouldn't expect anyone else to take those platforms very seriously either.

The truth of the matter is that If you don't own an N64 for your SM64 runs then you arn't actually serious about it's speedrun community. I'm not trying to make fun of anyone by saying that, it's just how things are. The SM64 community has too much deep rooted history with the N64 to throw that way of thinking aside anytime soon and it's because of this that other platforms are treated as stepping stones until you're ready to change.

not owning an n64 means that you aren't serious about speedrunning doesn't make any sense! What if somebody didn't had the correct amount of money and he had a virtual console and wanted to speedrun sm64?
